The Nier: Automata week-long mystery has finally come to a close with a special Twitch stream where three game modders admitted to creating the ‘Church’ with new modding methods.
Just like any nail-biting anime plot arc the exciting prospect of a new ‘secret room’ in the dystopian Nier: Automata has come to an end. The truth has finally been revealed as beautifully crafted mod work by the modding community, with three specific modders in particular coming forth. The tease of the room having been placed there by the developers has now been debunked, but the modders responsible have announced they will be sharing their extensive work in a live Twitch stream where the confession took place.
The mystery all began with a Reddit video surfacing of the user sadfutago locating a door that no player had seen before for the many years the game has been out. Considering the huge, cryptic, and secret nature behind the lore of the Nier games — it takes place in a dystopian future after a hidden Drakengard ending — it was possible that this could be a hint at possibly a new title, another alternate reality, or something else entirely. The mod was beyond the capabilities of anything seen before, so the notion that the now infamous church is indeed a mod is not what was expected by the community.
The Twitch stream not only revealed the work to be of three modders: DevolasRevenge, Woeful_Wolf, and RaiderB, but the “THANK YOU” message at the end provided information that the tools the modders used to break into this new ground will be made available, “the new Blender addons and scripting tools. Completely open source.”
Although the mods for Nier: Automata were advanced in nature, this opens a whole new can of worms for the modding community to dive into. With the church confession in tow and the mystery essentially solving itself, the modding community can look towards the capability of these new Blender tools and script for Nier: Automata modding in the immediate future.
Fans or aspiring modders looking to get their hands on these lucrative new tools can swing over to the modders Twitter profiles Woeful_Wolf_, and DevolasRevenge for updates. It’s also ironic that Woeful_Wolf_ in particular was stoking the flames of the mystery via Twitter retweets, hoodwinked indeed.
