No Multiplayer Mode in Wolfenstein: The New Order

Following up to yesterday’s announcement of Wolfenstein: The New Order, Bethseda and MachineGames have confirmed there will be no multiplayer mode in the first-person shooter franchise.

In addition to this confirmation, GameSpot also spoke with MachineGames’ creative director Jens Matthies in a video preview. Matthies said New Order would only be a single-player, which he believes requires great responsibility.

“It’s such a huge part of videogame legacy,” Matthies tells GameSpot. “If there’s a videogame museum, Wolfenstein is in the first room. It’s the start of the wave that shaped the world of gaming.”

According to Joystiq, the multiplayer feature was included in past Wolfenstein games: 2001’s Return to Castle Wolfenstein, 2003’s Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory and the 2009 Wolfenstein released for PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360.

Check out Wolfenstein: The New Order as it’s slated for release in the fourth quarter of this year for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. The New Order will also be released for next-generation consoles.
