Blizzard just announced that the Overwatch community has raised over $12.7 million USD to support breast cancer research.
With every purchase of the special Pink Mercy skin during the charity campaign, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation received funds.
The campaign not only featured the skin, but also limited-edition shirts that were designed by VICKISIGH, an artist in the Overwatch community.
To put the campaign into perspective, it is the largest donation by a corporate partner within a year in the entire 25-year history of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. In addition to the$12.7 million USD raised, charity stream viewers played their part in it and raised over $130,000 USD.
Over the two-week course of the charity campaign, the Overwatch community also took part in fantastic fanart and even cosplay.
Jeff Kaplan and the Overwatch team themselves even celebrated the success at a special presentation. The world could always use more heroes, and sometimes, they come in the form of dedicated people within the Overwatch community.
