Persona 5 Anime Series Confirmed for 2018

Persona 5 Anime Series Confirmed for 2018 1

The Phantom thieves will be returning in a new anime set for 2018.

Atlus and A-1 Pictures announced that Persona 5 the Animation will air in Japan next year.  The anime will adapt the story of Persona 5, featuring the same voice actors from the game’s original Japanese dub.  Along with the announcement, A-1 Pictures released a teaser trailer that uses Persona 5’s main intro theme.

Persona 5 is the latest release in Atlus’ long-running Persona series. Since its launch this year on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, Persona 5 has gone on to ship over 1.8 million copies. The game takes place in Tokyo, having players take on the role of a new transfer student at the fictional Shujin Academy. Shortly after beginning their new life, the player is thrust into an alternate world where they awaken to the power of Personas. The game blends dungeon crawling and turn-based RPG battles with elements found in dating simulators with players having to balance a busy in-game schedule.

This won’t be the first time that the cast of Persona 5 has been animated. In 2015, A-1 Pictures created Persona 5 the Animation: The Day Breakers. This anime special released just before the game’s launch in Japan and gave fans a preview of what to look forward to without giving any major plot points away.

A Persona 5 anime series shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise, given Atlus’ history with the series. In 2011, an anime adaptation of Persona 4 aired in Japan. A movie version of the same adaption aired a year after, recapping the series.  Persona 3 also got its turn in an animated form, receiving four movies that covered the majority of the game’s story.

Persona 5 the Animation will air sometime next year. As of now, Atlus hasn’t announced whether or not an English dub of the upcoming series will be made.
