PlayStation 5 Hits The 40 Million Sales Milestone

There are few certainties in life, and Sony surpassing a console sales milestone is one and like ALL the PlayStations before, the PlayStation 5 has eclipsed 40 million units sold.

Today Sony has announced the PlayStation 5 has officially surpassed 40 million units sold. President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Jim Ryan, announced the news on the PlayStation Blog today and thanked all Sony fans for their loyalty and support over the years since the November 2020 launch of the PS5.

Jim Ryan explains some of the successes of the PlayStation 5, stemming from the extensive catalogue of quality titles the PS5 can access “From innovative indie games to AAA blockbusters, there are more than 2,500 PS5 games now available, and it has never been a better time to experience PS5 In the last two months alone, we have seen incredible new games from our partners, including Final Fantasy XVI, Diablo IV, and Street Fighter 6.

As provided by Sony, the following are the top titles played by PlayStation 5 owners, in alphabetical order and could be the reason for Sony’s continued success. Hint: Astro’s Playroom is on the list, of course, seeing as how it shipped with the PS5.

What’s most interesting about this list is a whopping 16 titles were PlayStation 5 console exclusives for at least a small while, making 41% of the most played games either Sony Exclusive or a timed release exclusive on the PlayStation.
