Everything You Need to Know About Sony’s New PlayStation Plus

A Complex New Tier System

Everything You Need to Know About Sony's New PlayStation Plus

Sony’s all-new PlayStation Plus system is set to launch on June 13, 2022, in the Americas, and the way the system works is about to change drastically.

Instead of one basic subscription, PlayStation Plus will now have three different tiers, all of which come with various benefits. On top of the different tiers, Sony has now confirmed exactly how existing vouchers and codes will work when the new system launches.

Unfortunately, the company has also confirmed that it blocked code stacking of PS Plus and PS Now vouchers, until the new system launches. This means you can’t go out and buy multiple PS Plus cards and redeem them right now. Here’s a basic overview of all three tiers, before we jump into how vouchers will work.

Everything You Need To Know About Sony'S New Playstation Plus

New PlayStation Plus Tiers

PlayStation Plus Essential

  • $9.99 monthly / $24.99 quarterly / $59.99 yearly
  • Two monthly downloadable games
  • Exclusive discounts
  • Cloud storage for saved games
  • Online multiplayer access

PlayStation Plus Extra

  • $14.99 monthly / $39.99 quarterly / $99.99 yearly
  • All benefits from the Essential tier
  • Adds a catalog of up to 400 PS4 and PS5 games. Games in this tier can be downloaded.

PlayStation Plus Premium

  • $17.99 monthly / $49.99 quarterly / $119.99 yearly
  • All benefits from Essential and Extra tiers
  • Adds up to 340 more games from a catalog of PlayStation, PS2, PSP, and PS3 titles.
  • PS3 titles are only available through cloud streaming, while the rest can be streamed or downloaded.
  • Time-limited game trials.

With all the tiers out of the way now, here’s how all the pre-existing vouchers will translate into the new system. Because of the new more expensive tiers, things are a little different, meaning a 1-month card doesn’t necessarily always translate into one month. Note that non-subscriber means someone that doesn’t currently have a subscription.
