Pre-Order Your PSVR Bundle Starting March 22nd

PSVR Bundle Hits Pre-Orders March 22nd

PlayStation VR is capturing the hearts of minds of players worldwide. Hitting a price point well under what the Oculus or the HTC Vive are clocking in at, especially when you consider you will only need a PS4 to run games. It is easy to understand why people want to get their hands on the console.

Today Sony announced that if you are happy to pre-order the PSVR Bundle, you can order it starting March 22nd, will cost $499.99 USD ($699.99 CAD), and will go on sale starting at 10:00 AM EST/7:00 AM PST. There will apparently be only limited quantities of the bundle up for grabs. The PSVR bundle includes:

  • PS VR headset
  • PS VR cables
  • Stereo Headphones
  • PlayStation VR Demo Disc
  • PlayStation Camera
  • 2 PlayStation Move motion controllers
  • PlayStation VR Worlds (Disc)

Sadly, Sony has made it clear that the Core bundle that costs $399.99 USD ($549.99 CAD) will not be available for pre-order at this date. It has yet to be seen if other retailers such as Amazon or Gamestop allow pre-orders for the core bundle at a laster date, but if this changes we will keep you updated.

For anyone that already has the PlayStation Camera, and move controllers, it may make more sense to wait, as much of the value of the bundle are these items. With a $100 premium, you would not be getting the value, even if you can pre-order earlier. With the total cost of jumping still under $1,000, PSVR may be the entry point for many people interested in the new technology.

While I applauded Sony allowing people to jump in early and secure their seat in the VR Space, I question the choice only to allow people to purchase a bundle. With so many people already owning part of not all of what the package offers extra, the value proposition is not where it should be. We will need to see if Sony changes it’s tone and allows pre-orders of the core bundle at a later date.
