Sources indicate The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt will receive new DLC in May 2026, leading up to a new Witcher 4 announcement.
The Witcher rumours are becoming more prevalent. Recent reports suggest a new DLC for The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt may be coming out around May 2026. More specifically, the new DLC could be developed by Fool’s Theory, who are also working on The Witcher 1 Remake. The most recent predictor noted how this DLC will be a way to “kick off the proper marketing campaign for The Witcher 4.” This same source estimates that The Witcher 4 will release in Q4, 2027.
According to Eurogamer, Polish Noble Securities Analyst Mateusz Chrzanowski spoke about The Witcher 3’s new DLC releasing in May 2026. Eurogamer also followed up on the trusted leaker of Polish games industry information, Borys Nieśpielak, who stated that the information about the third game’s 2026 DLC has been verified by “several” independent sources. Nieśpielak also highlighted a point from CD Projekt RED’s recent earnings call, involving CD Projekt RED chief financial officer Piotr Nielubowicz.
Nielubowicz said: “Given our current progress, there is a chance that new content hinted upon in recent calls and reports may see release in the coming year.” Yet so far, CD Projekt RED’s official response states that the company “does not comment on rumour or speculation.” This is a vague comment, and all these statements can be taken with a grain of a salt. However, it is not ludicrous to think that CD Projekt RED is cooking up something to begin its big marketing push for the fourth game iteration.
The last major announcement on the fourth installment came from The Games Awards 2024, showcasing Ciri as the new protagonist. The State of Unreal in June 2025 also showed off tech demo gameplay footage on PlayStation 5 using Unreal Engine 5, emphasizing dense foliage and advanced rendering. Through many chatter, The Witcher 4 is expected to release some time in 2027.
I agree with Eurogamer’s marketing analysis, in that a potential shadow drop DLC for The Witcher 3 would make sense to help promote and explain the in-game lore for The Witcher 4. A new expansion could help explain why Geralt is not the main character anymore, and the paid expansion could help fund the last big push to finish the upcoming game. However, the technology with the game engines tells a different story.
The fourth game in the series is expected to utilize Unreal Engine 5; the first game in the series not using CD Projekt RED’s proprietary RED engine. From a management perspective, it would be strange to have Fool’s Theory working on the first game’s remake in Unreal Engine 5, and then also have another project to make in the older engine for The Witcher 3.

Unless, Fool’s Theory has been also secretly working on remaking The Witcher 3 in Unreal Engine 5 too. This would not be a major DLC announcement, but the technological transition for the 10-year-old game would be huge. As with many rumours across the gaming industry, only time will tell if the gossip actually bears any substance.
