Respawn Deploys Security Updates For Apex Legends Following Hack

EA has issued a response regarding the hacking over the weekends and deployed the first in a “layered series” of security updates for Apex Legends.

Over the weekends when the Global Series was being held, many professional Apex Legends players were hacked as the match was going on with players being able to see through walls and aim botting, striking fear into the players as they were confused on how to describe the situation and handle it.

The incidents during the competition were first captured by a professional Apex Legend player, Genburten, as he was live-streaming his game and left with confusion, being unable to do anything as this was unlike any hack to ever happen during events.

It was also reported that many players were affected by the hack as the event was going on, putting a stop to the Global Series for now as Respawn figured out what could’ve happened and kept the community safe.

With the community worried about the exploit in the game, Respawn has recently stated the importance of the security of the players and has deployed the first “layered series” of updates to ensure community safety while the competition is paused until the issue is resolved to continue.

Alongside the response from Respawn, the Apex Legends Esports account has stated they will work with EA and Respawn to ensure security and competitive integrity, with further updates about the event to be shared soon.

Previously, Epic Games had responded about Easy Anti-Cheat software that Apex Legends use to protect from cheating, stating they had investigated a recent report of potential RCE issues and are confident there was no vulnerability within Easy Anti-Cheat. Overall clarifying their software had nothing to do with the exploit, but will work closely with their partners for any support needed.

As of now, the Apex Legends Global Series will continue to be postponed until further notice as EA and Respawn work to deploy the security patches for the safety of the Apex Legends communities.
