It’s no secret that competitive first-person shooters have an abundant cheating problem, and Call of Duty fits this category, but Activision has announced new support that will shut cheaters down.
Activision has effectively issued a warning to players who are looking to cheat in Call of Duty that they will shut down the game application on PCs if it detects aim-assist on mouse and keyboard. This anti-cheat is called Ricochet and will work for Modern Warfare 2, Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone. The announcement comes from the official Call of Duty Updates X (formerly Twitter) account, and it can be seen below.
While aim-assist remains a huge issue in the FPS space, fans have taken to the comments section of the post to remark about what was notably left out of the anti-cheat focus for Call of Duty. User Joc_Holliday says, “So you are telling me, You can detect software that gives MnK players aim to assist, BUT yall can’t detect software that sees players through walls and soft aims,” pointing out that there is a larger issue at play aside from aim-assist. Sometimes, the assist software can help players detect others through walls and even kill combatants through walls as well.
Other users like IceManIsaac are confused about the anti-cheat wording, saying, “Why aren’t cheaters banned/suspended immediately? You’re telling people they can freely exploit until they’re detected and then they’ll get a gentle warning. Incredibly soft on cheaters. And people wonder why COD is infested with them” referring to the “repeated” mention in the post.
It’s also worth mentioning Call of Duty has just announced they have fixed the issue causing kill streak notification banners to not appear properly, and other small fixes for the Season 1 Reloaded update.
