Today, Roku announced the launch of the Roku Channel in Canada — a streaming service and channel that has been made from the ground up in order to deliver quality free TV shows and movies for the consumer. Best of all, the channel will be completely free, with ad support promised to be a third less than leading ad-supported Canadian programming.
Rob Holmes, Roku’s Vice President of Programming made a statement regarding the announcement, “We always aim to deliver the best entertainment selection and value for our customers, our users are looking for great free content, and with the launch of The Roku Channel we are making it easy for them to find it.”
The launch window for the Roku Channel will bring with it 100s of TV shows and movies, with standout hits such as Bad Boys, Julie & Julia and Grown Ups. Initial partnerships with publishers include American Classics/Hatch Farm Studios, FilmRise and Total Content Digital.
The Roku Channel is now available in Canadian markets for free on all Roku TV and Roku set-top box devices.
