At the Smite World Championships, the long-rumoured sequel Smite 2 has been officially announced, and the developers at Titan Forge Games plan to continue updates on the original.

The MOBA title Smite has seen a notably busy development cycle, with Titan Forge Games constantly updating the title and bringing in new heroes to keep the multiplayer arena fresh and balanced. Today, at the 2024 Smite World Championship, Smite 2 was officially announced for fans globally. Titan Forge Games has even given fans a sneak peek at what’s to come in Smite 2, and the video can be seen below.

The brief trailer above only shows a handful of the 25-character large roster Smite 2 will give players access to when it launches, and the developers over at Titan Forge Games have said they plan to bring over all of the characters from the original Smite at some point. Smite 2 is being built from the ground up for the next generation of MOBA players, and considering the original has a whopping 129 playable gods on the roster currently (and counting), it is a massive order.

It’s worth noting that the original 2014 Smite ran on Unreal Engine 3, so Smite 2 will be powered by Unreal Engine 5. While the brief snippets of gameplay above do look promising, fans should note it says “pre-alpha game footage” in the corner and the gameplay shown will not be indicative of final release gameplay. Smite 2 will also be only available on the next generation of consoles, the Xbox Series S/X, the PS5 and PC will be launch platforms, with no plans currently to bring the sequel to the previous gen of consoles.

That shouldn’t be that much of a problem though, considering Titan Forge Games has also announced their commitment to keep the original Smite running after the sequel launches, unlike how Overwatch servers ceased to exist after Activision Blizzard launched Overwatch 2.

Fans can sign up for the planned Smite 2 Spring 2024 Alpha playtest now through the official Titan Forge Games website, and more information should be given to aspiring Smite combatants at a later date.
