Sonic The Hedgehog 3 Brings Back Jim Carrey As Robotnik

Although (Light Spoiler Alert) the second film ended with Dr. Robotnik in a precarious situation, it has never been revealed whether the scientist made it out of the last moments of the film or not. Until today, when Variety has revealed Jim Carrey’s return for the three-quel. The official announcement of Jim Carrey’s return rides on the coattails of a very brief teaser video, which teases the anti-hero and darker version of Sonic, Shadow. The very brief teaser can be seen below, as posted to the official Sonic the Hedgehog X (formerly Twitter) account.

What’s interesting is that the brief teaser had a tune inspired by the main theme of the fan-favourite Sonic video game, Sonic Adventure 2. The theme is “Live and Learn” by Crush 40, almost all but assuring the appearance of Shadow the Hedgehog in the third film. The theme could also be a hint as to which direction the third film would be going in, Sonic Adventure 2 did feature Dr. Robotnik as a playable character who ultimately chooses to not follow in his evil grandfather, Gerald Robotnik’s footsteps in the penultimate ending. It’s possible Jim Carrey’s Robotnik could go down this path also, but nothing else has been officially announced just yet.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is still in production, and fans will have to wait to see which direction the plot of the film will go in, for further casting news as well.
