Sony E3 2015 Breakdown

Sony E3 2015 Breakdown - 2015-06-15 23:37:15

On Monday Night, Sony stole E3. Earlier in the day, most people wouldn’t believe that statement after Microsoft came up and delivered one of their best press conferences in years.

Sony had to bring their A game, and they opened with Japan Studio’s The Last Guardian. Unlike the last times we saw this game, we were treated to actual gameplay. It showed off the relationship between the protagonist and his guardian, and how that companionship relates to the gameplay. This, though, was just the beginning.

The house of Killzone, Guerilla Games, came to the stage to show an all-new property. That game is called Horizon: Zero Dawn, and is a post apocalyptic robot dinosaur hunting game. Yea, that’s a thing that exists, and it’s something that you don’t realize you need until you see it.  From there, we saw what’s new from Square Enix: a tease for a Final Fantasy VII remake.  It would make sense if this was done to generate hype for the developer’s conference tomorrow, so a tease is all we’re left with today, but that wasn’t the last of old property that we’d see.  The legendary game designer Yu Suzuki came out and answered every Dreamcast owner’s prayers by announcing it is funding the third Shenmue game on Kickstarter. This went on to break the website, but the game still managed to reach over $100 000 before the conference ended.

What Sony did right was show a lot of exclusive content.  We saw some gameplay footage from the massive space adventure, No Man’s Sky, as they landed on a randomly generated planet and just took a tour. But we also got to see some of the new Street Fighter V, the new game from the creators of little big planet titled Dreams, World of Final Fantasy, a little bit of project Morpheus, some exclusive Disney Infinity 3.0 content, and of course Uncharted 4.

The conference was over an hour long, so this is merely a condensed look at the presser, but it was a really strong showing that makes it hard to not get excited for the PlayStation 4.
