Skeleton Crew Trailers Shows Off a Very Different Kind of Star Wars Story

A very different sort of Star Wars adventure is coming this December, if Skeleton Crew’s new trailer is anything to go off.

This is the first Star Wars trailer to feature licensed music, at least in a way, setting a much different tone from the get-go. The trailer is set to Major Tom by Peter Schilling, although it seems to have some Star Wars-esque alien words replacing the lyrics.

In it, we get to see Skeleton Crew’s band of kids meeting up with Jude Law’s character, Jod Na Nawood, and going on an intergalactic adventure that involves a healthy helping of weird robots, space battles, pirates, and more. You can definitely feel the influence of this being sort of like The Goonies in Star Wars. You can see the full trailer below.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew debuts on December 3 with a two-episode premiere. Then it’ll be on a weekly episode schedule for the season’s full eight episodes.

Here’s Skeleton Crew’s official synopsis,

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew follows the journey of four kids who make a mysterious discovery on their seemingly safe home planet, then get lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy. Finding their way home—and meeting unlikely allies and enemies—will be a greater adventure than they ever imagined.”

The series is created and written by Christopher Ford (Spider-Man: Homecoming, Robot & Frank), with episodes directed by Jon Watts (Spider-Man: No Way Home), Daniel Kwan (Everything Everywhere All At Once), David Lowery (A Ghost Story), Daniel Scheinert (Everything Everywhere All at Once), and Jake Schreier (Beef).

Apart from Jude Law, the cast includes Nick Frost as SM-33, Jaleel White as Gunter, Haley Webb as Jedi Ninaa Nawood, Kryiana Kratter as KB, Ravi Cabot-Conyers as Wim, and Robert Timothy Smith as Neel.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew streams exclusively on Disney Plus on December 3.
