Right behind the Nintendo Direct for today, PlayStation hosted their own State of Play September 2022 edition, with exciting reveals and premieres for fans.
In a surprise move, Sony announced its latest State of Play scheduled for September right after Nintendo locked in the time for their Direct, on Twitter no less, and whether coincidence or not they both landed today. Sony brought a wealth of announcements to keep PlayStation fans warm, even as Summer is coming to an end. Even more surprising, they brought some software announcements for the aforementioned PSVR 2.

God of War Ragnarök New Story Trailer – State of Play September 2022
The cool part about the new story trailer revealed today, is new weapons and fighting mechanics, mixed with the notion that it seems Atreus is running the show while Kratos cant escape his past. The trailer concluded with a brand new special edition Dualsense controller announcement in Ragnarök flavour.
God of War Ragnarök launches November 9.
Synduality – State of Play September 2022 Premiere
A new IP called Synduality was announced, revealing a Sci-Fi third person title set in a dystopian future. The title is published by Bandai Namco, and features a fight for humanity against certain doom. With AI partner Magus, you lay waste to the Enders for mankind. No other info regarding launch has been announced just yet, so fans should stay tuned.
Rise of the Ronin – State of Play Spetember 2022 Premiere
Another new reveal, this time from Team Ninja, is an action RPG which inserts the player into the Geta of a Ronin on the dawn of a new Japan era. This title is said to be combat focused, while remaining true to the history of the time period, the end of the Edo period. Said to be a PlayStation console exclusive to release in 2024.
Stellar Blade – State of Play September 2022 Premiere
Previously known as ‘Project EVE,’ another newly revealed title, Stellar Blade graced the showcase as a 3rd person action title with smooth combat mechanics and deep lore. Stellar Blade is also a PlayStation console exclusive and is set to arrive sometime in 2023.
PlayStation Stars Digital Collectible First Look
The first wave of digital only collectibles from the new PlayStation Stars program is announced. The PlayStation Stars program offers a way to earn collectibles by simply playing titles. Although they do kind of resemble Super Smash Bros Ultimate trophies, they all come with PlayStation flair, and celebrate the history of Sony and its licenses.
Hogwarts Legacy PlayStation Exclusive Quest – State of Play September 2022
Not only was this unique quest for PlayStation players revealed, a choice system possiobly rooted in morality is also on full display here. Hogwarts Legacy launches on February 10, 2023.
Pacific Drive – State of Play 2022 Premiere
Yet another new title, Pacific Drive got the reveal treatment today. This is a driving survival adventure game that comes straight from Ironwood Studios, that is seeping with lore and legends to keep those who survive intrigued. Set to launch in 2023, with no word on whether it will arrive on other consoles just yet.
Like a Dragon: Ishin! – State of Play September 2022 Premiere
PlayStation really struck while the iron is hot, with ANOTHER new title reveal in Like a Dragon: Ishin! Set in a fictitious version of real-life Kyoto, Japan simply called Kyo, Sakamoto Ryoma must overthrow the shogunate and reform Japan. Notable characters from the Yakuza series of games will make appearances one way or another. This means more Goro Majima, but feudally. Set for launch in February 2023.
Demeo – State of Play September 2022 Premiere
Channeling players’ inner dungeon master is a title that worksa hand-in-hand with the PSVR 2 called Demeo. Everything players know and love regarding tabletop RPGs is here in full effect, except in VR. This title is set to launch in 2023, for PSVR 2.
Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge – Enhanced Edition – State of Play September 2022
Walk in the shoes of a token droid serviceman, who coincidentally becomes the title’s hero through a series of unfortunate events. Notable Star Wars series cameos will make appearances such as R2-D2, and C-3PO on your journey across the galaxy far, far away. Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge – Enhanced Edition is set to launch on PSVR 2 in 2023.
Tekken 8 Trailer – State of Play September 2022 Premiere
Closing out the State of Play September 2022 edition is the reveal of the latest Tekken title, Tekken 8. Executive Producer and Director, Katsuhiro Harada states “In the trailer, you can see this level of quality in the newly created playable character models that completely sets itself apart from the current Tekken 7, and in little details like how water droplets run down the character’s skin,” in a sleek 60 fps, the difference is notable, and no other information besides ‘in development’ was given, so fans have to stay tuned.
