Special edition Switch timed with Super Mario Bros. Wonder launch

Nintendo Unveils Mario Red Edition Switch OLED Console

During the highly anticipated Super Mario Bros. Wonder Direct presentation, Nintendo officially unveiled a new Mario Red Edition of the popular Nintendo Switch OLED.

Expected to launch at a $349.99 MSRP ($449.99 CAD), the new Mario Red console features a bright red docking station and matching Joy-Cons, and it’s adorned with subtle nods to the Mario franchise, including a silhouette of Mario and some hidden coins on the dock. Sadly, even though it is built to launch alongside the new game, the console won’t come with Super Mario Bros. Wonder.

The new console was revealed during Nintendo’s Super Mario Bros. Wonder Direct presentation, which was focused entirely on the Super Mario Bros. Wonder game. The presentation gave fans a sneak peek into the game’s story, power-ups, playable characters, and online features, which will allow players to help out others playing the game online.

The Mario Red Edition Switch OLED console will launch on October 6, two weeks before Super Mario Bros. Wonder hits shelves on October 20. The company has released special versions of the Switch OLED in the past, including one that coincided with the release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Edition, so it is no surprise Nintendo has opted for a special edition for one of the most anticipated Nintendo titles of the year.

Even six years into its life, the Nintendo Switch is still a powerhouse for gamers. In their latest financial report, Nintendo revealed that the global lifetime sales stood at 129.53 million by the mid-point of 2023. The company forecasts it will sell 15 million Switch consoles during the current fiscal year ending on March 31, 2024.

If that were not enough, there have been reports that Nintendo has sent Switch 2 development kits to key partners, with a launch planned for the second half of 2024. However, Nintendo has yet to comment on plans for its next console, with few concrete hints to point to a firm release date or even how the new console will compare to the current Switch hardware.

The new Mario Red Edition Switch OLED console is looking to be an exciting addition to the Nintendo hardware lineup, and I know we can’t wait to get our hands on it! With its sleek design, premium features, and Mario-themed goodies, it’s sure to be a hit among gamers.
