TIFF 2022 Kickoff: Exciting Stuff To Look Forward To

Every year the Toronto Independent Film Festival brings films from around the globe in celebration of everything movie related, and TIFF 2022 is kicking off today.

It’s that time of year again for TIFF, which returns in-person again after taking the past two years off. This year’s festival is absolutely loaded with fire, with many anticipated films on the agenda and celebrity attendees to keep guests occupied throughout the event.

Straight off the bat, it could be overwhelming with how much there actually is to do at TIFF 2022, especially considering it runs for 10 days from September 8 until September 18. So we have compiled a small handy guide for some stuff attendees can look forward to during the runtime of the show:

Films To Look Forward To At TIFF 2022

  • Opening day ends with an absolute bang, as Weird: The Al Yankovic Story closes out the show at 12 a.m. in the Royal Alexandra Theatre. This is not a Press & Industry affair so attendees can see the film, starring Daniel Radcliffe, then.
  • The latest in the Knives Out films, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery by Director Rian Johnson, is also making an appearance at TIFF 2022, and will be first shown to the public at 6 p.m. on September 10.
  • Encoring Knives Out in in the VISA Screening Room at the Princess of Wales Theatre is the latest Steven Spielberg feature, The Fabelmans, which will start at around the 9:15 p.m. mark. Any Spielberg fan will want to see this one—the legendary director also wrote the screenplay, which is based on his childhood.
  • Lastly, the elephant or whale in the room, is Brendan Fraser’s return to acting with The Whale, which premieres to the public at 5:30 p.m. on September 11 in the Royal Alexandra Theater. Fraser received a heartwarming 6-minute long standing ovation for his role as a 600-pound man in this film.

Fans looking for the entire screening schedule can check it out here, as there is a TON. Attendees of TIFF 2022 should adjust the filters to their pass type, though.

As is their mission TIFF 2022 “is dedicated to presenting the best of international and Canadian cinema and creating transformational experiences for film lovers and creators of all ages and backgrounds,” and is a huge event every year. Besides celebrities and film, there is many food venues such as Little Sister on Portland street, or Minami Toronto right across the street from the TIFF Bell Lightbox for a quick sushi fix. There are many places to just simply take a break from the immense offerings TIFF 2022 has on it’s schedule.

TIFF 2022 will run from September 8 until September 18; expect Festival Street to be mobbed for the duration.
