Ubisoft investing $28 million for studio expansion in Quebec

Ubisoft Entertainment S.A announced yesterday they will invest $28 million over three years to expand its Quebec City studio, which will create 100 new jobs.

Pauline Marois, Quebec Premier, said in a statement from Davos, Switzerland – where she and the chief executive of the French-based studio are attending the World Economic Forum – that the province will provide $510, 000 to support the expansion.

Well-known for its Assassin’s Creed series, Ubisoft opened its Quebec City studio in 2005, and also has a branch in the Montreal.

The company is hoping to to add 500 new jobs to its establishment in Quebec, increasing the workforce to 3,000.

Yves Guillemont, Ubisoft co-founder and CEO, said on Wednesday in an interview with the Montreal Gazette that the company is thankful for the government’s assistance, and is looking forward to strengthening their presence within the province.

“Ubisoft is home to more than 9,000 talented team members worldwide who are dedicated to creating the best games in the industry. Our Quebec City studio has demonstrated its ability to manage large-scale projects and it is a natural progression to entrust the team with the production of AAA next-gen games,” he said

Quebec City mayor, Régis Labeaume, said in a statement that this announcement will help, “maintain the vitality of the interactive entertainment industry here in Quebec.”

Ubisoft’s upcoming sand-box behemoth Watch Dogs is currently set for a release in March, after being pushed ahead last year from its initial holiday release date.
