The topic of exclusivity has become something of a hot button issues as more and more games become accessible on multiple systems. One champion of this was XBOX Games, however that may begin to change.
In an interview with Bloomberg, XBOX CEO Asha Sharma seemed to acknowledge that the platform needs exclusive games in order to offer more value to potential customers. Saying to Executive Producer and Host of Bloomberg Originals Emily Chang, “It’s a tough topic. Look, we’re the number two publisher in the world, and in order to be a great publisher, you must have your games reach large audiences to play.”

Sharma went on to say, “At the same time, we’re increasingly becoming a platform, and in order to become a platform, you must have exclusive content and services. And so we’re looking at that very closely. I think that we have to be very thoughtful about each title, on how we want to think about it, and learn from similar cases in the industry, and that’s what we’re doing.”
While Sharma was light on details, it does highlight Sharma’s recent changes and philosophy in regards with restoring the image and value of the XBOX brand. On top of focusing on a new console (code-named Helix), recently, Sharma also made a point to lower the price of XBOX Game Pass stating in an internal memo that the service had “grown too expensive for players,” and that the service needed to “create a better value equation.
This may coincide fortuitously with the XBOX Showcase during Summer Game Fest 2026, which is sure to showcase games that have been in development for a while, but possibly a few surprise reveals that could end up being XBOX exclusives. CGM will be providing coverage of the event as it goes live on Sunday, June 7th, 2026.
