XBOX outages continue to flood the internet, with Microsoft addressing the situation and is currently working to resolve all issues.
XBOX gamers may have woken up to some upsetting news, and no, it is not related to the mass layoffs—unless the online services department was part of the culling. More major outages continue to flood the internet regarding XBOX’s online services. Players already reported the inability to sign-in to their accounts and start some downloaded games. The services have reportedly been happening for eight hours and counting, with no fix yet. Microsoft addressed the issues on X, but has not provided an update as to what caused the outage or when services will return to normal.
The official XBOX status page shows the “major outage” status for the following services:
- Account & Profile — “You may not be able to sign-in to your Xbox profile, may be disconnected while signed in, or have other related problems. Features that require sign-in like most games, apps and social activity won’t be available.”
- Store & Subscriptions — “You might not see a game you’re looking for in the Store right now.”
- Games & Gaming — “You may have problems playing your digital games right now.”
- Apps & Mobile — “You may have problems launching apps.”
Microsoft must be scrambling around the clock to resolve this issue, as Halo: Campaign Evolved is set to officially launch tomorrow (July 28), as Premium Edition owners have already been playing three days early. This online service problem took a turn for the worse last week against XBOX’s competitor. Sony’s PlayStation Network went down in a similar way, but came at the worst time for the company. One of the major reasons was that the open beta for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls went live at the same time.
Amid backlash to eliminate physical discs for new PlayStation games in 2028, the outage proved everyone’s point that an all-digital future should be frowned upon. If PSN keeps going down, gamers will grow more frustrated as they cannot access their game library during that downtime. Whereas having a physical copy of a game, especially for a single-player game, typically allows players to keep playing.
While the memes against Sony and PlayStation continue to flood the internet, it is possible that XBOX will also get its share of backlash with the recent layoffs and how Project Helix will reportedly not have a disc drive. But the internet remains slow on Monday morning, maybe the memes will begin by Monday night—especially if the issues persist throughout the day. For now, the support page currently lists all four issues with a “pending” status for a resolution.
