Brutalist Review Style (Version 2)

Over the past few years, I have become a big fan of dual-chamber PC cases. They provide much more room to work in, offer stunning designs, and simply look interesting. While I’ve had many that I’ve enjoyed, few can compare to the latest offering from be quiet!: the Light Base 600 LX. This exquisitely designed case demonstrates that arriving fashionably late can bring its own advantages. Priced at $149.90, this premium chassis features innovative designs and versatile configuration options that set it apart from the competition.

There is no denying that the Light Base 600 LX upholds the level of quality be quiet! is known for, combining premium construction with high-quality steel, tempered glass, and ABS plastic into a robust and visually striking design. Its panoramic aesthetic features fully windowed front and side glass panels, offering a clear and unobstructed view of the internal components—a truly stunning sight when fully assembled.

Measuring 450 x 305 x 455 mm and weighing 12.1 kg, the case strikes an excellent balance between being a functional showcase for hardware and a practical solution for modern builds. Setting up the new build, I was struck by how easy everything was. The Light Base 600 LX provides ample room to configure your PC any way you need. It offers plenty of cooling, and the size ensures that, regardless of the GPU or components you choose, there is ample space to spare.

Beyond being a great case to build in, the be quiet! Light Base 600 LX offers levels of customization and configuration rarely seen in dual-chamber designs. It features a quick-release foot design, allowing users to seamlessly transform the case orientation. Builders can switch between standard, inverted, and horizontal configurations in seconds, making the case highly versatile for different setups. However, while this feature adds significant flexibility, the loose-fitting feet require careful handling during movement to avoid accidental detachment—a minor consideration for users seeking maximum convenience.

As expected, this case offers a range of options to keep your system cool. For our test build, we opted for an AIO cooler, but there is ample space for a full water-cooling setup or air cooling if preferred. The case supports the simultaneous installation of up to two 360 mm radiators, ensuring efficient cooling for high-performance systems. It also provides room for large components, with a maximum GPU length of 400 mm, CPU cooler clearance up to 170 mm, and support for power supply units measuring up to 200 mm.

What was unexpected—and a pleasant surprise—was that the Light Base 600 LX comes pre-equipped with four be quiet! Light Wings LX 120 mm fans. This setup includes one forward-blade fan and three reverse-blade fans, optimized for airflow and cooling performance. Additionally, the dual integrated six-port ARGB and PWM fan hubs allow for convenient connectivity, supporting up to 12 fans in total. This combination of features ensures the Light Base 600 LX is well-suited to maintaining optimal temperatures, even in the most powerful PC configurations.

Building in the case was a joy, and that’s coming from someone who has built over 15 PCs this year alone. Be quiet! has incorporated several thoughtful cable management features in the Light Base 600 LX to simplify assembly and enhance overall build quality. A hinged cover located behind the motherboard streamlines side panel installation, making it easier to access and organize cables. The case’s dual-chamber design separates the main component area from the cable management space, improving airflow while maintaining a clean and organized aesthetic. These features ensure users can achieve both functional and visually appealing builds.

The Light Base 600 LX also provides modern and versatile storage options, focusing on support for solid-state drives. It includes two 2.5-inch drive bays, expandable to accommodate up to four drives, and one 3.5-inch drive bay, expandable to two. These options cater to contemporary storage needs while ensuring flexibility for various configurations.

Even though the Light Base 600 LX boasts a sleek design, be quiet! did not neglect the lighting, offering a high level of adjustment to keep builds looking sharp without veering into an RGB overload. The case includes an ARGB LED strip that spans three sides, showcasing 77 addressable RGB LEDs. With full compatibility for motherboard synchronization, the lighting system allows users to create stunning and personalized effects, enhancing the overall aesthetic of the build.

Now, if you’ve read this far, you’re keenly aware that I’m a big fan of this case, but as with anything, nothing is perfect. I was slightly disappointed by the Light Base 600 LX’s lack of removable fan or radiator trays, which can make installation and maintenance more cumbersome than necessary. Additionally, cleaning the bottom dust filter requires inverting the entire case—a potentially inconvenient task given the case’s substantial weight. These are minor gripes, especially considering how much be quiet! got right, but with any case at this price point, it’s worth considering all aspects.

This brings me to the next issue that could deter some from purchasing this case: the price. The Light Base 600 LX, in the configuration I tested, costs just under $200 USD. You can opt for the slightly cheaper Light Base 600 DX, which forgoes the fans and offers a more bare-bones concept. However, at $159, it’s still expensive, especially if you plan to purchase additional be quiet! or Noctua fans to complete your setup. While I believe the case more than justifies its price tag, it’s not the best option for those aiming for a budget build. There are excellent alternatives from NZXT, Corsair, and Cooler Master that are more affordable, but most in the lower price range don’t compare to the style the Light Base 600 DX brings to the table.

Despite these issues, I have to say I love the Light Base 600 LX case. Its innovative orientation options, robust cooling support, and refined RGB implementation make it an attractive choice for enthusiast builders. While there is room for improvement, particularly in maintenance accessibility, the overall design provides a premium building experience that justifies its price point. For builders seeking a versatile, feature-rich chassis capable of adapting to a range of setup requirements, the be quiet! Light Base 600 LX is a compelling option worthy of serious consideration.
