Brutalist Review Style (Version 2)

With more and more companies trying their hand at audio products, such as earbuds or headphones, distinguishing the quality products from the not so great products is getting increasingly difficult. Each company has their own way of incorporating their own twist on products to try making their devices stand out from others in hopes of making a sale.

EarFun, a relatively new company to the industry, has been trying their hand at audio products since 2018 and offer a line of earbuds, speakers and other products to enhance your music/audio experiences. All products are chock full of features while keeping their prices significantly lower than lower than many larger brands in the industry.

I had the opportunity to check out one of their newer sets of earbuds, the EarFun Free Pro 3’s, which, while they are a mouthful of a name, are a compact set of buds that are also very light weight. Like the rest of EarFun’s lineup, the Free Pro 3’s come packed with a long list of features, including ANC, wireless charging compatible case, impressive battery life and more.

Opening the relatively small box from EarFun, I was blown away by just how much was packed inside. Along with the usual earbuds and case, EarFun has also included several sizes of ear tips, spare ear hooks, for each bud, the charging cable and the usual slew of paperwork for warranty info and instructions.

“While the EarFun Free Pro 3’s may not be the most water-resistant earbuds on the market, they still come with IPX5 sweat and water resistant making them ideal for workouts or activities out in lighter rain.”

Unlike a majority of earbuds I have used that are have all rounded edges and are more contoured to the users ears, the EarFun Free Pro 3’s are much more boxy in shape, however, they were still very comfortable to wear for long periods of time. Many times, I would forget they were even in my ears which made long wear sessions a breeze and almost relaxing. The wide range of ear tip pieces EarFun includes also make finding your ideal fitment super easy to do.

Battery life is an aspect I found both impressive and surprising for such small earbuds. On average, I could get 7 or more hours of use before needing to stick the earbuds back into their case for charging. This far exceeded my expectations as many other big brand earbuds on average only get around 5 hours of use. The case was also fast at charging the buds when needed as well. A simple 10-minute charge can get you around an additional 2 hours of listening time or about 26 hours in total before needing to recharge the case.

While the EarFun Free Pro 3’s may not be the most water-resistant earbuds on the market, they still come with IPX5 sweat and water resistant making them ideal for workouts or activities out in lighter rain.

In my time of using the EarFun Free Pro 3’s, I found the listening experience to be excellent when compared to many other well-known brands on the market. Music sounded crystal clear and I had an ample amount of bass to go along with it. I often found myself reaching for these buds over my top brand buds like my Apple AirPods Pro or Google Pixel Buds Pro. Quite surprising when these other buds cost several times more than the EarFun buds.

The noise cancellation mode was generally my mode of preference in order to tune out everything else going on around me, and in this aspect, the EarFun Free Pro 3’s excel incredibly as I rarely heard any external noises, whether it being other people talking, my cat meowing or just general house noises.
