I have been using a few Logitech peripherals and accessories for most of my life, and they rarely miss the mark. The Logitech G309 LIGHTSPEED was no exception, offering great battery life, easy connectivity, and precise tracking, among a few other great features. This device is part of the latest LIGHTSPEED lineup, and it was far from disappointing.
In the box, the G309 LIGHTSPEED wireless gaming mouse also comes with a LIGHTSPEED USB receiver, a cable extender, grip stickers, an AA battery and the user manual. The grip stickers are a nice addition to this gaming-focused mouse. In general, grip tape/stickers on mice are helpful for competitive gamers—regardless of grip style. I typically switch between palm and claw in FPS games and MOBAs.
The G309 LIGHTSPEED wireless gaming mouse comes in two colours: black and white. It sticks to the most basic colours and has no RGB lighting. This is a no-nonsense mouse. This is a mouse that sacrifices the pleasant aesthetics for the ultimate gaming performance. I ran marathons of multi-hour sessions of Valorant, League of Legends and Apex Legends to test out this mouse in the first couple of weeks of testing.

One of the biggest innovations of the Logitech G309 LIGHTSPEED Wireless was the new LIGHTSPEED technology. In brief, Logitech created one of its best-selling products, the Logitech G POWERPLAY wireless charging system, which allows certain Logitech mice to charge without having a battery or cord plugged in. This would mean less weight to move around when clicking heads in Counter Strike 2—dropping the weight of 86g with the single AA battery down to 68g with POWERPLAY charging.
It does not have any USB-C charging capabilities, which I felt could have been included since it had space at the top piece of the mouse—like many mice. But upon second thought, Logitech probably wanted to stress the importance of keeping this mouse strictly wireless in all capacities—either running on a single battery or through the LIGHTSPEED wireless charging station.
“One of the biggest innovations of the Logitech G309 LIGHTSPEED Wireless was the new LIGHTSPEED technology.”
The G309 LIGHTSPEED revolutionizes battery management with the introduction of the HERO 25K sensor. This new sensor is said to significantly lower latency while improving power efficiency about 10 times over. Its 400+ IPS velocity tracking allows for near-perfect accuracy and precision with zero smoothing, filtering or acceleration.

Putting this mouse against the G705 wireless gaming mouse yielded some interesting results. While the G705 only has a 100-8,200 DPI versus the G309’s 100-25,600 min-max, the margins felt quite similar in a third-person shooter setting like Fortnite. This is probably due to the fact that there are a lot of different movements and strategies to play with. But in a more tactical shooter like Valorant, I found the higher DPI significantly felt better for micro-adjustments in my aiming. I could say the same thing about Apex Legends.
I also put both mice to the test with the MOBA League of Legends to see how the precise movements felt. From a MOBA perspective, this gaming mouse could have used additional side buttons, but I knew this was a shooter-focused mouse since the weight was a major factor in this build.
“Even when I was not gaming with the G309 LIGHTSPEED, it was still a versatile mouse for productivity purposes.”
As for the LIGHTFORCE SWITCHES hybrid optical-mechanical switches, each click of a button was super smooth. I was able to see great responsiveness in League of Legends, and it did not hurt my fingers after strenuous use. In addition to FPS and MOBA games, I also tested out the G309 LIGHTSPEED on the RTS game Company of Heroes 3 and Age of Darkness Final Stand. I found similar results to League of Legends where excessive clicking was comfortable for my fingers and hand.

Even when I was not gaming with the G309 LIGHTSPEED, it was still a versatile mouse for productivity purposes. This is where the Logitech G Hub app is great for managing the different customizable profiles. Logitech knows that gamers tend to do a lot of office work, too, and it has made it worth the $79.99 price tag for the wider consumer market.
As someone who works from home and tends to take wireless devices like this on the go, I will usually get comments or looks on how certain gaming keyboards or mice look like gaming peripherals. For example, the RGB lighting is a dead giveaway. Sometimes, it is nice for people to know I like to game without having to say much, but sometimes, I just want to hunker down and get some writing done. The Logitech G309 LIGHTSPEED Wireless Gaming Mouse was perfect for that, as I used it to get some work done at TIFF 2024 without being distracted or feeling like I was distracting others, either.
So, the G309 LIGHTSPEED worked like a chameleon—primarily good for gaming but also felt great as a productivity plus. While it could have added some curves to fit into the hand more comfortably, the symmetrical design is perfect for the everyday gamer. The Logitech G309 LIGHTSPEED Wireless Gaming Mouse may be the best mouse Logitech has put out in a while, leaving little room to find any faults.
