Logitech MX Master 4

Brutalist Review Style (Version 2)

The Logitech MX Master 3 and 3S are regarded as two of the best creator mice available, delivering an experience that allows users to control nearly every aspect of an application directly from the mouse. Logitech has taken up the challenge of improving this formula and released one of the best creator-focused mice I have ever used. It is, without a doubt, an option that anyone seeking to enhance their creative workflow should consider.

With tactile vibrations, software innovations through the Actions Ring feature, and twice the connectivity strength of previous models, the Logitech MX Master 4 mouse positions itself as an essential tool for creative professionals, developers and business users who demand precision and efficiency from their peripherals.

Unboxing the Logitech MX Master 4 mouse, you could be forgiven for thinking it looks nearly identical to past iterations of the design. Placed side by side with the MX Master 3S, the MX Master 4 maintains the familiar ergonomic shape that has defined this series since its inception. The sculpted form, designed to cradle the palm, remains, as does the signature button placement productivity enthusiasts have come to rely on.

This similarity is not a drawback. For creative professionals who have built up muscle memory, consistency makes sense. Changing a formula that is not broken simply for the sake of difference offers little benefit. The refinements Logitech has introduced feel natural and serve as a solid evolution of the concept.

The MX Master 4 measures 128.15 millimetres in height, 88.35 millimetres in width and 50.8 millimetres in depth, with a weight of 150 grams. This makes it slightly heavier than the MX Master 3S, which weighs 141 grams, though the difference is marginal enough that most users will not notice it in daily use. The enhanced stain-resistant materials and durable construction give the mouse a sense of quality, suggesting it can withstand the rigours of professional environments while maintaining its appearance over time. Although long-term durability is difficult to judge, I am impressed by what I have seen so far.

“… the Logitech MX Master 4 mouse positions itself as an essential tool…”

I received the black variant, but the Logitech MX Master 4 mouse is available in a range of colours, including Graphite, Pale Grey and Black globally, with Mac-specific versions in Space Black and White Silver. This provides aesthetic flexibility to match various desktop setups. Logitech has also incorporated a sustainability-focused design, featuring a minimum of 48 percent certified post-consumer recycled plastic, a low-carbon aluminum thumbwheel, and a battery made with 100 percent recycled cobalt. While these details may not significantly impact day-to-day use for most people, it is commendable to see Logitech prioritizing sustainability with the MX Master 4.

On the surface, the MX Master 4 feels very similar to past iterations. However, Logitech has introduced new innovations, most notably a customizable haptic feedback system, making it the company’s only mouse to feature this technology. The subtle vibrations provide tactile responses during scrolling, navigation and selection, creating an immersive interaction that enhances precision in demanding tasks such as video editing, design work and data analysis. I initially thought this feature sounded like a gimmick, but it has quickly become something I rely on daily.

This haptic system transforms the mouse experience from purely visual feedback to a multisensory tool that provides confirmation without requiring constant attention to the screen. Because it is customizable, professionals can adjust the intensity and application of haptic responses to suit their workflow requirements, creating a personalized experience that adapts to individual preferences.

Using the haptic button on the Logitech MX Master 4 mouse gives you access to the Actions Ring, a digital overlay enabled by Logi Options+. This overlay provides app-specific shortcuts and customizable controls accessible anywhere on the screen. Logitech claims this feature can help boost productivity, and they may be right. Once I had it set up correctly, I found myself using it daily, and it has become something I miss when working on another PC.

I can see many creatives quickly adopting this feature. It makes it easy to jump directly to a tool in Photoshop or automate functions in Excel. The ability to access frequently used tools instantly eliminates the need to return to toolbars and menus, saving valuable minutes throughout the workday.

If you liked the feeling and speed of the MX Master 3S, you will be happy to hear the MX Master 4 keeps the same impressive 8,000 DPI sensor that doubled its predecessor’s capabilities, maintaining this high-precision tracking while adding enhanced performance through improved connectivity. The high-performance chip and optimized antenna placement deliver twice the connectivity strength of previous models, ensuring uninterrupted workflows even in crowded wireless environments. The new USB-C dongle provides quick and dependable pairing across laptops, desktops and tablets, keeping the mouse connected without frustrating delays or dropouts during my two weeks of testing the mouse.

I am also happy to see the MagSpeed Scroll Wheel carried on from the previous iteration of the mouse, allowing users to scroll up to 1,000 lines per second while maintaining the ability to stop precisely on a single pixel. This electromagnetic scroll wheel remains Logitech’s fastest, quietest and most precise scrolling experience, making it invaluable for editing long documents, navigating large spreadsheets or consuming lengthy web content. The SmartShift feature automatically transitions between FreeSpin mode for rapid scrolling and Ratchet mode for precise control, eliminating the need for manual toggling.

The MX Master 3S introduced the Quiet Click feature, reducing noise by 90 percent compared to the MX Master 3. The MX Master 4 continues this trend, and I have to say it is a welcome improvement that feels excellent in practice. The soft, tactile response reduces distractions in open office environments and shared workspaces, allowing professionals to maintain focus without disturbing colleagues. It is not a feature I would suggest buying the MX Master 4 for on its own, but I have enjoyed it as part of my daily routine at the desk. It is something I honestly did not expect to appreciate as much as I do, and I miss it when I switch to other mice around the office.

When I first tested the MX Master 3S at launch, I was impressed. With the MX Master 4, it seems Logitech has stepped things up further. The company boasts that with USB-C quick charging, the mouse provides up to 70 days of use on a full charge. A one-minute quick charge delivers three hours of use, ensuring that even if you are caught unprepared, a brief charging session during a coffee break provides enough power to get through the workday.

Since charging it when it first arrived for testing, I have used the mouse unplugged, and it is still going strong. I have not yet been able to test the full 70-day claim, but at this rate, I expect it will come close. Of course, that depends on variables such as DPI settings. Still, Logitech has clearly nailed this aspect, making battery life something I do not have to worry about during my workday.

I was also happy to see that the MX Master 4 supports pairing with multiple devices over Bluetooth and allows users to switch between them with the push of a button. Multi-device pairing supports up to three devices, allowing for seamless switching between them through either the Actions Ring or the Easy-Switch buttons. In addition, Logi Options+ enables file transfers between connected devices, further enhancing workflow continuity.

In testing the MX Master 4, I was impressed by the new features while appreciating that it retained what worked in past iterations. This makes for a seamless transition and an excellent new work companion. The mouse responds instantly and precisely, never introducing lag that interrupts creative flow or disrupts focused work sessions. Its 8,000-DPI sensor tracks smoothly on virtually any surface, including glass, providing responsive, pixel-perfect control essential for detailed design work and multi-monitor setups. The ergonomic design, with its natural tilt, intuitive button placement and thumb scroll wheel, reduces hand stress during extended use, maintaining comfort throughout long work sessions.

I was also impressed with how much can be customized within the Logi Options+ software. It provides extensive options, allowing users to adjust tracking speed, create app-specific presets, automate repetitive tasks with Smart Actions and use Flow technology to work seamlessly across multiple devices. This level of control helps elevate the MX Master 4 from a simple pointing device into a comprehensive productivity platform tailored to individual workflows and professional requirements, something that can adapt to creative needs without compromising your specific workflow.

Logitech Mx Master 4 Mouse Review

So, with all this considered, is the Logitech MX Master 4 mouse worth the investment? For professionals still using the MX Master 3S and satisfied with its performance, the upgrade may not be immediately necessary, as the 3S remains an excellent productivity mouse. However, the addition of haptic feedback, the Actions Ring feature and doubled connectivity strength are strong improvements to an already refined formula.

Do I think people who already own the MX Master 3S should spend another $119.99 to upgrade? Not necessarily. But the MX Master 4 does enough to make it a worthy step forward for those who want to make the leap. The core of the mouse remains solid, with the improvements acting as a polished layer of icing on an already well-designed, time-tested foundation.

I was skeptical when I first heard rumours of the new mouse, but after using it, I can confidently say I love the Logitech MX Master 4 mouse. It successfully builds on the strong foundation of its predecessors while introducing innovations that genuinely enhance the professional computing experience. The haptic feedback creates an immersive interaction previously unavailable in productivity mice (and is simply very enjoyable to use). Combined with the features carried over from past iterations, the Logitech MX Master 4 mouse represents the pinnacle of productivity mouse engineering and a worthy successor to an iconic lineup.
