When it comes to floor cleaning, it’s definitely one of my lesser favourite household chores to do, simply for the multi-surface layout of my home. The Shark PowerDetect UV Reveal 2-In-1 Vacuum & Mop came over recently and, after the shift it’s put in, I don’t think I’ll ever let it leave.
First things first is the unboxing, which is becoming more and more simple as time goes on with these robot vacuums. The PowerDetect UV Reveal has the base unit, 2 water tanks, the vacuum itself, a bottle of tile/wood floor cleaning solution, and the power cord along with the requisite paperwork as well. Set up is very simple, as it really is plug-and-play to turn it on, and once you get the device paired to the app on your phone, you’re ready to send it out on its first recon mission to map the layout of your home.

Mapping the environment was very simple for the PowerDetect UV Reveal and took a meagre 5 minutes to map my 2-bedroom home. Once mapped, I set up a schedule quite easily in the app and decided exactly what I wanted the vacuum/mop to do for that schedule. I chose to vacuum and mop on the five weekdays because we have two cats and two kids, so there is never a moment where there isn’t something on the floor.
What made the PowerDetect UV Reveal so good for me was the mopping pad. The mopping pad encompasses the entire back half of the underside of the unit and scrubs the floors in a left-to-right pattern rather than the spinning pattern some other vacuums use. As well, it can extend out from the unit to get to some areas that are slightly underneath ledges, like a kitchen cabinet or TV stand.
“With Advanced 360-degree LiDAR laser detection and 3D sensors built-in, the PowerDetect UV Reveal can navigate around almost any obstacle in its path.”
In tandem with the mopping prowess, the PowerDetect UV Reveal uses UV Stain Detect to search out and clean those tiny dried-on messes that you didn’t even know were there. Every once in a while, I’d see the dark hallway to the bedrooms light up purple and then remember that the vacuum was out and about and it was UV-detecting. Once the mopping is done, the vacuum returns to the base to empty the water tank into the dirty water reservoir and begins cleaning and sanitizing the mop pad, eliminating as much as 99% of the bacteria from the pad and preventing it from being spread around the next time it goes out.

The vacuum itself is no slouch either, as even on its 10th, 20th, even 30th cleaning adventure, I can still look at the carpets and see how clean they are from the night before when the kids come home from school with all manner of who knows what on the bottom of their shoes. With Advanced 360-degree LiDAR laser detection and 3D sensors built-in, the Shark PowerDetect UV Reveal can navigate around almost any obstacle in its path. There were a few times, however, when I had to go rescue the little fellow from a situation of being caught on a power cord or something similar, but nothing too excessive.
One of the best things I found about the mopping feature is that when it completes its entire scheduled task, it returns to the base for a brief moment, and if it detects an excessively stained area, the base will say out loud that it is “heading back out to aggressively attack a stain”. I absolutely love that, but that’s about where I draw the line at my appliances talking to me about what they’re doing at the time.

There are a few things I wish the PowerDetect UV Reveal had that I had grown used to with other vacuums. First of them is a dust bag in the base. As it stands, the vacuum empties its dust collection bin into another dust collection bin with it docks in the base unit. The first time I went to empty it, I was greeted with a modest amount of cat hair and dust that I was not too keen to disturb by hand. A collection bag makes things so much simpler, but I’ll have to go without for now.

The other thing I wish the PowerDetect UV Reveal had is a more modest price point. Coming in at $1899 CAD, it can rival your refrigerator for the biggest appliance purchase in the home. Whether or not it’s worth the price is best left to the individual, but I hoped for a more down-to-earth price tag.
Overall, I was very pleased with the Shark PowerDetect UV Reveal 2-In-1 Vacuum & Mop and how it performed in my home. Sometimes it drags around the cat food tray and spills water, but that’s a minor gripe that can be easily remedied. My floors are clean every day, and I barely have to lift a finger; what more could I ask for?
- HIGH SUCTION POWER & HYPERSONIC MOPPING: Brings the elbow grease with an all-new targeted cleaning pattern that delivers 7x* the scrubbing power (*vs. Shark RV2820ZE), while powerful vacuuming lifts dirt, debris, and hair from carpets and hard floors.
- UV STAIN DETECT FOR PET MESSES: UV light technology reveals hidden messes like sticky spills and dried-on pet messes, enabling targeted deep cleaning with up to 2x* better stain removal (*vs. Dreame X40).
