Unikrn Hires Gambling Industry Titan, Andrew Vouris, as New COO to Lead Wagering and Gaming Growth Strategies

Unikrn Hires Gambling Industry Titan, Andrew Vouris, as New COO to Lead Wagering and Gaming Growth Strategies

Vouris’ February Addition is in Time for Unikrn’s European Rollout

#andrewvourisUnikrn, one of esports’ and gaming’s biggest brands, is onboarding
a new COO, Andrew Vouris
. Vouris, who has over 10 years of experience growing one of Wagering and Gaming’s most successful brands (Tabcorp), will join Unikrn in February. As COO, Vouris will lead Wagering and Gaming growth strategies, as well as connecting and
synergizing the company’s global team and four primary offices (in Seattle, Las Vegas, Sydney and Berlin). He will report directly into Rahul Sood, Unikrn’s CEO.

In early 2018, Unikrn plans to launch a regulated betting operation
across 80% of Europe utilizing their recently acquired Malta Gaming
License, and Vouris will steer operations with the experience gained
from helping grow Tabcorp into a global leader across a decade.

As Deputy COO at Tabcorp, Vouris was responsible for the retail, digital
and online channels and helped grow the Tabcorp Wagering business to $13
billion before making the decision to leave. He was also responsible for
the Unikrn investment by Tabcorp and has had an insider view of the
company since inception.

Many other established betting firms actively sought to recruit Vouris
before he made the decision to join Unikrn.

“We hope none of our competitors will hold a grudge that Andrew picked Unikrn. It wasnever a fair fight given our recent success and his long-established love of both esports and our company,” said Rahul Sood, CEO of Unikrn. “With UnikoinGold and ourEuropeanexpansion, we have a busy year ahead of us. Andrew is going to bring the experience and discipline that we need to accelerate Unikrn’s path toward unprecedentedsuccess.”

In addition to the upcoming European rollout, Unikrn’s teams arepreparing for leviathan rollouts throughout 2018, expecting updates toinclude crypto betting, 24-hour and real-time betting in applicableregions, re-entry to Australia, real-money betting, improved websitegamification, expanded uses for the UnikoinGold token and much more.

“I first met the Unikrn crew back in 2014. That’s when I made thedecision that Tabcorp would invest in them to help them build theirbusiness,” said Andrew Vouris. “Obviously, I fell in love with the team, the brand, the vision and the product — this company is the future, andI’m going to make sure we expose them to the world.”

GOLEM GATES, A REAL-TIME STRATEGY AND COLLECTIBLE CARD GAME HYBRID, RELEASES FIRST MAJOR EPISODE OF ITS SINGLE-PLAYER CAMPAIGN ON STEAM TODAY

GOLEM GATES, A REAL-TIME STRATEGY AND COLLECTIBLE CARD GAME HYBRID, RELEASES FIRST MAJOR EPISODE OF ITS SINGLE-PLAYER CAMPAIGN ON STEAM TODAY

Witness the Birth of The Harbinger in Story Content Update for Dark Fantasy Strategy Game from Talent Behind Epic’s Gears of War and Marvel Studio Films

Laser Guided Games LLC — an independent developer made up of industry veterans from Epic Games — and Hollow Earth Inc., the studio responsible for character design in blockbuster Marvel films Spider-Man: Homecoming, Iron Man and the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War, today released the first major story content update for their dark fantasy strategy game Golem Gates. Players of the real-time strategy (RTS) and collectible card game (CCG) hybrid title can experience Golem Gates’ lore-rich world through Book I of the episodic single-player story campaign, available today as a free update through Steam.

It all begins with a mysterious voice, reaching from the unknown — calling from the darkness to summon you, The Harbinger. An outcast in this forsaken world, The Harbinger is given purpose: find the monolithic Golem Gates which aid the enemy, and destroy them to be redeemed. Book I of Golem Gate’s single-player story campaign teaches the player to wield the power of The Harbinger to manipulate and command nanites from The Ash — an ancient power that resides in the world’s atmosphere. Follow the unseen force that compels you to take up arms in five story missions that put you on the course to unraveling the mysteries surrounding the golem’s long-lost creators. But beware, there are others with power over The Ash.

“We’re thrilled to introduce players to the The Harbinger, the protagonist of the game, and the Golem Gates themselves, the ominous giant structures that protect the enemy,” said Josh Nizzi, Head of Hollow Earth Inc. “We can’t wait for players to dive deeper into the dark and dangerous world of Golem Gates — stay tuned for even more twists and revelations ahead!”

“With the introduction of the Golem Gates single-player campaign, players can now further immerse themselves in its arcane setting,” said Matt Oelfke, Founder and Lead Developer at Laser Guided Games. “Our Early Access players enjoying Golem Gates’ multiplayer side couldn’t get enough of the world we created, so we’ve expanded our scope to deliver even more single-player content than originally planned. Book I is just the beginning, and we can’t wait to hear what fans think!”

Key Features:
  • Dynamic Diversity: Create your own unique battle plan to counter your opponents with nearly 100 collectible card game inspired Glyphs, including units, buildings, traps, buffs, debuffs and techs, that provide nearly limitless strategy options.
  • Multiple Modes: Experience the evolving story of Golem Gates’ single-player campaign and take the fight online with friends in cooperative and survival-based modes.
  • May the RNG Gods Smile Upon You: Randomized Glyph drawing puts a slightly different spin on every battle by eliminating monotonous build sequences, while rewarding deck building mastery and strategic planning chops in equal measure.
  • Streamlined Strategy: Build and enhance your forces with Glyphs; no production or research buildings are needed. Capture resources in King of the Hill style skirmishes without dedicated gathering units and keep your focus where it belongs — on the battle.
  • Fight Where You Have Sight: Glyphs can be played almost anywhere you have an existing presence. Add more forces to a battle to turn the tide, transform a scouting party into an army, place emergency defenses to respond to the enemy or hide an outpost in a direction the enemy doesn’t expect. The choices are yours, but beware: the enemy will do the same and with the right Glyph, your forces can be destroyed as quickly as they were created

Golem Gates is a collaborative project developed by Laser Guided Games and Hollow Earth Inc. Laser Guided Games is made up of veterans from Epic Games who have worked on blockbuster game franchises such as Gears of War and Unreal Tournament. The Hollow Earth team specializes in art design and story development with past experience working on blockbuster Marvel films Spider-Man: Homecoming and Iron Man, as well as the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War and Black Panther, in addition to the Transformers movie franchise.

Golem Gates is available for purchase now via Steam Early Access for Windows PC for an early adopter price of $19.99 at http://store.steampowered.com/app/575970/Golem_Gates. The complete game emerges from Early Access on March 28, 2018.

Death Road To Canada Makes Trip To Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One This Spring

Death Road To Canada Makes Trip To Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One This Spring

UKIYO Publishing, the London-based independent video game publisher in partnership with Rocketcat Games and Madgarden, are proud to announce that their randomly generated, zombie-filled road-trip, Death Road To Canada, is making its way to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One this Spring. The release includes all major updates from the original PC version. Players will now be able to take the highly esteemed cadaverous journey from Florida to Ontario, soaking up its immaculately gruesome pixel-art take on the undead apocalypse. Facing off against near insurmountable odds, Death Road To Canada tasks players with surviving its brutal, hyper-violent combat with over-the-top, looted weaponry. Scavenging the derelict environment, tough, sometimes hilarious decisions will have to be made along the way, either alone or in its two-player co-op mode.

“We believe Death Road To Canada is perfectly suited to be played in both the home and on the go,” said Kepa Auwae, Co-Founder of Rocketcat Games. “Single player is great of course, but the local co-op mode brings a slower, more tactical pace to the game. With the Nintendo Switch’s Joy Con controllers and the promise of couch play on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, we’re proud to share the console experience of Death Road to Canada with players across the world.”

Tipped off that Canada might just be free from the threat of zombies, the long, winding Death Road is all that stands between the player and their goal. Players will explore iconic sites such as Y’all-Mart and the Muscle! Bomb!! Gym!!!, meeting and recruiting a host of strange and bizarre companions along the way. Unusually for randomly generated roguelikes, Death Road To Canada features a heavy emphasis on narrative, its Interactive Fiction events making or breaking friendships, all the while adding character-driven drama to the blood and guts chaos of combat. A far cry from sunshine state at the end Route 66, Death Road To Canada is a desperate scramble to the promised land of Ontario.

JUMP SPREADS THE LOVE WITH NEW GAMES FOR FEBRUARY AND CROSSES THE 100-GAMES MARK

JUMP SPREADS THE LOVE WITH NEW GAMES FOR FEBRUARY AND CROSSES THE 100-GAMES MARK

February is often known as the month for love, and Jump—the on-demand video game subscription service with an emphasis on independent games—has many reasons to adore this month. Not only is Jump bringing a bevy of new games to its service, even more monumental, it breaks the 100-games milestone for its ever-growing library. Titles will be released weekly throughout the month, and kicking off on February 1 are critically acclaimed platformer Splasher and popular anxiety-inducing and desk-pounding AFTERGRINDER.

Jump also keeps the gamer love going by maintaining its limited-time early-adopter price of $4.99/month for subscriptions while the platform continues to grow its features and catalog.

NEW GAMES TO JUMP

  • LAUNCHING FEBRUARY 1: Multi-award winner Splasher, by developer Splashteam, is a fun and challenging 2D platformer filled with humor and surprises. Armed with a paint cannon, players face the dangers of the Inkorp mega-factory in order to save their companions—the Splashers—and put an end to the Machiavellian projects of the evil boss, Le Docteur.

  • LAUNCHING FEBRUARY 1: AFTERGRINDER, by Grave Danger Games, puts players in just that in this punishing arcade runner for the speed freaks and masochists among us. Players first pick a character, next pick a level…and then get ready to die. Unless they can survive 90 rage-inducing levels in 3 unforgiving worlds, that is.
  • Evangeline—Raconteur Games’ Evangeline is a unique and emotional narrative game where color guides players through the world. Set in the 1980s, you are thrown into a strangely familiar monochrome neighborhood and must piece together the story through color as you play. Inspired by the loss of a loved one, Evangeline is about life, love, and loss, and will invite players to connect with those they care about. In the end, players have to ask themselves one simple question: If you could make one last call to a loved one, what would you say? A special note about the game, it has also been tailored to be enjoyable for most levels of color perception, such that color blind players should be able to enjoy the game no matter their situation.

  • WORLD END ECONOMiCA Ep. 02—In this second episode of the highly acclaimed three-part visual novel from the creator of Spice and Wolf, Isuna Hasekura, and developer Spicy Tails, WORLD END ECONOMiCA Ep. 02 (Episode 01 is also available on Jump), Haru woke up with his life but without his dream. Four years after the incident, he finds a new cause, as a driven young lady offers him a chance to return to investing and to find justice.

  • 88 Heroes—From publisher Rising Star and developer Bitmap Bureau comes this unique high-quality, action-filled platformer 88 Heroes. It’s 8:08am on 8th August 1988, and the evil Dr. H8 has brought the world to the brink of total annihilation! His demands are simple: Pay $88 octillion within 88 minutes or Dr. H8’s 88 thermonuclear warheads will wipe out the Earth. With 88 levels between them and Dr. H8, only 88 seconds to complete each level and the 88-minute Doomsday clock already ticking, players lead 88 unique characters—each with their own special abilities—on a platform-hopping, enemy-smashing, danger-dodging mission to save Earth from complete destruction.

  • HOOK—From developer Maciej Targoni, creator of the beautiful puzzler Klocki (also available on Jump), and Wojclech Wasiak is another short, uniquely designed minimalist puzzle game that falls into the category of relaxing puzzlers perfect for those who enjoy unwinding and engaging in brain twisters.

  • PUSH—By the creators of Klocki, Zenge, HOOK (all three available on Jump) and Art of Gravity, developers Maciej Targoni and Michal Palowski teamed up to create PUSH. A gorgeous and relaxing puzzle game, PUSH has no points, no star awards, no tutorials, and no move counters—just a single goal of pushing all the buttons. How do you do it? Well, that’s the puzzle.

  • Doodle 8-bit Mania—Head back to the 80s in Joybit’s mega-popular addictive, puzzle world-building game. Players mix and match different element combinations to build the universe of their dreams. The entire game, based on Doodle God (also available on Jump)  has been beautifully redrawn in pixel graphics with an awesome new 8-bit soundtrack that takes you back to the very beginning of video games.

Kuuhubb to acquire Valiance UG, a leading mobile esports company and developer of blockchain-enabled gaming platform

Kuuhubb to acquire Valiance UG, a leading mobile esports company and developer of blockchain-enabled gaming platform

Kuuhubb Inc. (“Kuuhubb” or the “Company”) (TSX-V:KUU) announces that it has signed a term sheet to acquire mobile esports platform developer Valiance UG.  The Germany-based, blockchain enabled Valiance esports platform is designed to support both mobile esports competitors and content creators and provides them with opportunities to monetise their involvement playing esports titles they love.

“Kuuhubb’s strategy to acquire, partner, build and globally grow under-appreciated mobile gaming assets continues to gain traction.  Adding Valiance to our portfolio offers Kuuhubb entry via acquisition into mobile esports gaming, the fastest growing segment of the multi-billion dollar esports industry.  Valiance complements Kuuhubb’s existing female lifestyle segment by broadening our demographic reach, and by bringing custom blockchain software technology and development capabilities which we plan to deploy across Kuuhubb’s product portfolio to create blockchain enabled mobile communities,” commented Jouni Keränen, CEO of Kuuhubb.

Valiance UG was co-founded by Ms Dragana Gucanin and Mr Antonio Meic in 2016, with the mission of becoming a leading mobile esports gaming company offering gamers a platform to participate in regular prize-winning tournaments and to contribute to the growth of mobile gaming communities. Valiance with the implementation of blockchain technologies is creating a gaming community where users participate both in the management and the value creation of the community.  Headquartered in Berlin, Germany, Valiance has grown to over twenty developers with deep technical expertise in mobile application development, enterprise-scale systems and payment solutions used to deliver the next generation esports platform utilising proprietary blockchain implementation for global decentralized transactions and regulating the next-generation esports ecosystem.

“The Valiance team is excited to join Kuuhubb because of its global network and reach to accelerate the growth of our mobile esports platform.  Our platform replaces current ways of distributing value and managing mobile esports gaming communities. We are developing our product with a continuous involvement of our users and have established partnerships with key stakeholders which are providing us with additional confidence that we are on a right track.  Also, our blockchain-enabled PaaS technology is highly customisable and nimble enough to easily integrate and support existing game platforms of highly engaged mobile communities like Recolor,” stated Dragana Gucanin and Antonio Meic, co-founders of Valiance.

Kuuhubb’s acquisition of Valiance is expected to be completed within the first quarter of 2018, and is subject to the execution of the definitive documentation in respect of such acquisition and receipt of TSX Venture Exchange acceptance.

Award-Winning Co-op Stealth Game, Hacktag, Confirmed to Infiltrate Steam on February 14

Award-Winning Co-op Stealth Game, Hacktag, Confirmed to Infiltrate Steam on February 14

Piece of Cake Studios, an independent videogame studio specializing in co-op games, today announced that its award-winning co-op stealth game, Hacktag, will release for PC and Mac via Steam on February 14th. The isometric game, which features both solo and two-player modes, pairs a physical Agent and a virtual Hacker as they secretly infiltrate corporations and “liberate” their data.

Set in 2029 in a parallel world populated by cute, anthropomorphic animals, Hacktag is a fast-paced two-player co-op stealth-game with asymmetric gameplay. One player is an Agent in the field while the other is a virtually-infiltrated Hacker. Hired as mercenaries by competing corporations, the two players work together to carry out espionage missions via online or local co-op—or in solo mode, one player switches between the two roles.
“We’ve been working night and day to get Hacktag ready to bring co-op stealth to PC players who like to play together,” said Marine Lemaitre Freland, Co-Founder and CEO of Piece of Cake Studios. “Feedback from our community has been tremendous and we’ve added new modes and features to make the game even more fun while keeping its subversive nature front and center.”
In Hacktag, the Agent moves physically through a corporate building level while the Hacker moves alongside electronically via network nodes. While the Agent avoids physical guards (watch out for those pandas!), the Hacker avoids anti-virus software moving through the network, with both players seeking to hack computers to steal the data required for mission success. While some tasks can be accomplished by either player, many tasks require the cooperation of both—for instance, opening a locked door requires the Hacker to electronically unlock it while the Agent physically opens it.
The game was first released on Steam Early Access in June 2017, where it has been continually refined and expanded in keeping with community feedback. Hacktag will be available for $19.99/€19.99, with a 25% launch week discount that will make the price just $14.99.

Elgato Cam Link Review: Transform Your Camera into a Webcam

Elgato Cam Link Review: Transform Your Camera into a Webcam

Elgato used to be known exclusively for their quality video capture cards, but in recent months their lineup of products has branched out into being many Twitch streamers’ one stop shop for a full professional grade streaming setup at a relatively affordable price. One of those new products happens to be the Elgato Cam Link, a USB 3.0 dongle that transforms your favourite video camera into your new webcam.

Elgato Cam Link Review: Transform Your Camera into a Webcam 1
Elgato Cam Link (Review image credit: CGMagazine).

Retailing for $173 CAD, the Elgato Cam Link takes the HDMI output of a video device, whether that be a camcorder, DSLR or action cam, and displays the captured video at 1080p 60FPS to the user’s PC without any latency. While that sounds like an incredibly simple device, there’s more to the process of how the Cam Link achieves these results then you may initially think.

First, the Cam Link takes the RAW quality video signal from the camera and transcodes it in real time, compressing the footage while maintaining a sharp image. Without this encoder technology the user’s CPU would be under a great deal of stress trying to multitask the webcam, the stream, and the game being played, all at the same time. Lastly, the Cam Link plays well with every kind of recording or broadcast software out there, instantly recognizing my DSLR as a webcam in OBS and XSplit after downloading two small sets of drivers from Magic Lantern and Elgato. The ease of use of this product is great and I can see why professionals are flocking to it as the next upgrade path for their setup.

Elgato Cam Link Review: Transform Your Camera into a Webcam 3
Elgato Cam Link (Review image credit: CGMagazine).

The Elgato Cam Link does its job to near perfection, but that doesn’t mean it’s a great addition for every streamers setup. This product is ideally for the “professional” streamer, the kind of user who utilizes two PC’s to broadcast their content and sees benefits from upgrading their webcam because it increases the visual quality of their product. It also doesn’t hurt that these users more than likely make money when they go live for thousands of people to enjoy. That’s a niche market of people when you consider the massive oversaturation of streamers on Twitch that don’t even manage to make it to the affiliate level.

I would recommend amateur streamers on a budget to stick by their trusty webcams for a while longer and consider the Elgato Cam Link as more of a luxury item down the line until they grow large enough to justify the purchase and expand their setup. Professionals, on the other hand, are always looking to get an edge on their competition and should see worthwhile benefits upgrading their broadcast using a powerful video camera paired with the Elgato Cam Link.
