With the recent developments in the Nintendo switch hacking scene along with the release of Team Xecuter’s modchip solution for the switch, Nintendo has apparently begun taking action against users who have gone online with non-legitimate or pirated copies of games.
Team Xecuter, a well-known hacking group among the Nintendo switch homebrew community released their long-anticipated modding solution which launched on the 18th of June, giving users the ability to play backed-up cartridge dumps of various switch titles. Obviously, due to the nature of the matter, Nintendo has made steps in order to ensure that anyone who goes online with a pirated or copied title will be met with a swift ban, preventing the use of online services. Reports have been suggesting that in some instances, Nintendo has opted to ban the copied cartridge itself, rather than the console. This is possible due to pirated titles containing identical certificates or identification serials from the original cartridge dump. The error code in question is 0x1F727C– 2124-4025, according to renowned switch hacker and Twitter user, SciresM.
Looks like we’ve got confirmation that Nintendo is banning gamecart certificates (I guess people aren’t taking my advice…). The relevant error for trying to use a gamecard with a banned cert is 0x1F727C — 2124-4025.

In other words, pirating games is always a lose-lose situation and users should always support the developers by purchasing the great titles available on platforms such as the Nintendo switch. Fortunately, piracy is only a small facet of the potential that homebrew can have on the switch, with Team Xecuter’s modding solution also allowing users to simply run homebrew applications, opening up the homebrew scene to a larger audience.
Nintendo has yet to comment on the alleged banning nor even acknowledge the release of Team Xecuter’s exploits.
