Earlier this year, 343 Studios promised fans that they would be overhauling the Halo: Master Chief Collection, with promises of 4K support for Xbox One X, improved matchmaking and more. Since then, 343 has rolled out a BETA for the MCC, allowing Xbox players to test out new features as they roll out.
Halo: The Master Chief Collection first launched back in 2014 on the Xbox One, unfortunately, the collection suffered from major matchmaking issues which plagued the title for months, making it nearly impossible to find a game. Since the initial release, MCC has gotten numerous updates that have addressed some these issues but it looks like 343 plans on further improving the game, according to a new post on Halowaypoint.
Below, readers can take a look at the some stunning screenshots from Halo 2 and Halo 4 in 4K, from the MCC BETA (From NeoGAF user, Koala Driving a Ferrari):
The post in question, talks about the future of the Master Chief Collection, particularly touching upon updates planned to benefit Xbox One X users, such as native 4K support for all the legacy 360 titles. Interestingly, the post also outlines plans to completely rehaul the titles’ API’s and most importantly, the way the game handles match matching.
- Retooled API’s and development kits
- Code fixes, bug fixes
- Removal of back-up P2P and guaranteed dedicated servers
- Overhaul of how matches are found and also to the handling of the different game engines when loading matches
- Significant changes to the systems that handle playing with parties and doing coop with friends.
- Graphical improvements for the Xbox One X
No release date or even a timeline has been given regarding when these updates will go live but it is nice to see 343 still care about a title from 2014. Readers interested in checking out the BETA can sign up by clicking here.
