Fortnite is Launching with Next Generation Systems

Fortnite Makes a Day One Jump to PS5 and Xbox Series X

Fortnite Teases Season 7 Theme

Epic Games announced its hit battle royale game Fortnite will be available for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X when they are released later this year.

In an announcement over Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest and online post, The Fortnite Team stated it will let users transfer their progress over seamlessly to next generation consoles. The newer game will also be getting a graphics overhaul when developers “migrate” Fortnite into their upcoming Unreal Engine V next year.

The company’s latest tech demo showed off the new graphics with dynamic lighting and photorealistic in-game objects. This also makes it interesting to see how the studio would bring its unique 3D style into a sharper setting from Unreal Engine V.

Epic also stated the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions will keep cross platform intact, letting players drop together on two generations’ worth of consoles. It also means current generation PS4 and Xbox One owners will still be kept in the loop when Fortnite transitions into new systems.

The game is currently on its Fortnite Chapter 2 build while its spy-themed season 2 was extended from April 30 to June 4. It’s playable on all major systems including the PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch and mobile phones. No release date was confirmed for the PS5’s launch while the Xbox Series X is set to release on Holiday 2020.
