Amazon Games officially launched its first game and MMO yesterday, New World to acclaim yesterday and it’s already looking to make it easier for players to get into the game.
When New World first launched it wasn’t met with a lot of criticism other than the long wait times to actually get into the game proper. Well thankfully, Amazon Games is very aware of the issue and is already looking into reducing queue time for all players across the world. New World developer, Amazon Games Orange County has been updating the forums during its launch day yesterday. During that time they have added new servers including EU Central, North America West, North America East and Australia.
The hope with this approach for New World is to offer players more ways to get into the MMO and seemingly spread its growing player base across all the worlds. To help spread the information of what’s going on in the game, a new fan-run website, New World Status is looking to offer live data for player counts across the world. This includes the number of people waiting in the queue for any of the worlds and the estimated average wait time, which at max can go up to a three-day wait time depending on the number of players trying to get into any of the individual worlds.
When New World first launched on Steam yesterday it easily became Steam’s most played game of the year. At its peak, the Amazon MMO reach over 700,000 concurrent which annihilated Valhiem’s 2021 record holder of 502,397. As of writing New World currently has more than 427,000 total players in the MMO’s worlds.
New World is currently available on PC and according to FAQ will be the only platforms will be playable on, so a console version might not be in the cards but if you’re picking up a Steam Deck at some point then that might be a workaround to play the MMO on a console-like device.
