2020 Overwatch League will launch with Weekends in Dallas 1

The Overwatch League has just announced that the 2020 season will launch with Weekends in Dallas and New York. The weekend of competitive play will also be hosted by New York Excelsior and Dallas Fuel.

For Dallas Fuel, the Overwatch Opening Weekend is scheduled to feature two matches on Saturday and Sunday. They will be playing against Los Angeles Valiant on February 8, followed up by duking it out against San Francisco Shock on February 9 next year.

This event will be taking place at Esports Stadium Arlington, which is a dedicated esports venue.

For the 2020 Overwatch League season, Dallas Fuel is scheduled to play 28 matches in the regular season, as well as play in the Western Division. This division also consists of teams Los Angeles Gladiators, Los Angeles Valiant, San Francisco Shock, and Vancouver Titans.

Earlier this year, Dallas Fuel saw success in its first homestand weekend. Now with the new home-and-away schedule, more Overwatch League teams will be hosting at least two homestand weekends for the 2020 season.

“Fans in North Texas really helped the esports industry pass a critical first test about the sustainability of a home-and-away format for the Overwatch League with flying colors,” Mike Rufail, the owner and CEO of Envy Gaming, said. Envy Gaming is the organization behind Dallas Fuel.

Aaron “Aero” Atkins, who is the head coach of Dallas Fuel, is also excited about the new home-and-away format.

“Our favorite part of what we do is getting to play in front of our fans, and playing at different venues across North Texas will enable us to do just that,” Aero said. “Nothing beats the roar of an energized crowd after a big play or hard-fought match.”
