Almost 20 years have passed since 28 Weeks Later was released, and today the third film in the franchise, 28 Years Later just dropped a chilling trailer.
A gripping trailer has just hit the internet for the third instalment of the Danny Boyle and Alex Garland zombie apocalypse, 28 Years Later. The film has been incubating for nearly two decades, as the previous instalment 28 Weeks Later launched in 2007, but as the new Sony Pictures trailer mentions as the tagline for the film, “time didn’t heal anything.” The trailer for the third film can be seen below featuring Aaron Taylor-Johnson as a less-Kraven hunter.
The trailer begins with a counter of days, referencing the first title in the trilogy, 28 Days Later, as “10,228 days ago”. Mentioning how days became weeks (mentioning the second film in the trailer), culminating in how it has now been years since the zombie apocalypse introduced in the 2002 original started. For a brief moment in the trailer, Oscar-Winning Actor Cillian Murphy can be seen (maybe reprising his role from the 2002 original) as a less-than-human version of the character Jim from 2002, and fans might be able to expect an end for the character considering his no show in the 2007 sequel, 28 Weeks Later.

Director Danny Boyle leads the charge on 28 Years Later, while handling scribe duties alongside Alex Garland. Newcomers to the 28 Days Later franchise include lead actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ralph Fiennes, Erin Kellyman, Jodie Comer and Jack O’Connell, with Cillian Murphy returning from the first film. As of this posting, no actors from 28 Weeks Later (or others from the original film) have been confirmed to return in the newest instalment.
28 Years Later is scheduled to land in theatres on June 20, 2025. Fans can head to the official Sony Pictures website for other release information.
