Apple Orders Game About Gaza Strip To Be Removed From ‘Games’ App Section

Apple Orders Game About Gaza Strip To Be Removed From 'Games' App Section 2

Apple has told Palestinian indie game developer Rasheed Abueideh his game Liyla and The Shadows of War is “not appropriate in the Games category” and must be removed from it, according to a tweet from Abueideh.

In the picture Abueideh tweeted out, Apple asks him to “remove references to the app being a game” and that it would be “more appropriate” in the “News or Reference” category.

Liyla is available on the Google Play store and is flagged as a “Mature 17+” title. The game is set in the war-torn Gaza Strip of Palestine and is focused around a girl living there.

Apple has a history of taking down games with political content in the past, such as Phone Story that was removed four days after its release. However, as users at NeoGAF have pointed out, some political titles such as This War Of Mine still remain in the Games category.
