Previously known as Assassin’s Creed Codename Red, Ubisoft has finally pulled back the curtain on the next game in the franchise, Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
Revealed nearly two years ago, Assassin’s Creed Codename Red took the imaginations of many when Ubisoft revealed it, and much more at the October 2022 showcase. While virtually no official news has come out regarding the title (a whole Ubisoft Forward happened in June 2023), and a whole other game in the series Assassin’s Creed Mirage has launched since then, Ubisoft has finally given fans a world premiere trailer complete with a real title, introducing Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The trailer can be seen below, showcasing the duality present in the new title with two main characters.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows features a dual protagonist system, and the trailer does a good job showcasing the vastly different playstyles present in Shadows. Players will don the garb of Naoe the Shinobi or Yasuke the Samurai in the new title. Assassin’s Creed Shadows takes place in the 1500s in Japan, and that’s where this adventure starts when Yasuke arrives on the shores of Japan in 1579. As Assassin’s Creed is known to do, historical figures from the period will make an appearance, such as Oda Nobunaga and other potential figures from the Feudal era.
The idea behind the setting was to have Yasuke, who functions in the game as a foreigner discovering Japan, mirror the player as a foreigner discovering Japan. On the other hand, Naoe has a secluded past story set in the mountains at the birthplace of the Shinobi. These two differing perspectives give the player a bigger picture of the culture present in the era.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows will launch on November 15 for consoles and, for the first time in franchise history on launch day, for PC & Mac also. Three versions of the title are available at launch, a Standard, an Ultimate, and a Collector’s edition. While pricing hasn’t been revealed just yet (on the collector’s edition), fans should keep an eye out for when pre-orders go live if interested. Fans can head to the official Ubisoft website for more information.
