Larian Studios has been hard at work updating its Game of the Year winner, Baldur’s Gate 3, since launch — and today, the final patch lands, marking the end of nearly a decade of development.
It has been an eventful two years since Larian Studios officially launched its 2023 Game of the Year winner, Baldur’s Gate 3, which went on to win virtually every major GOTY award. But Baldur’s Gate 3 wasn’t always so polished, as the title was plagued by problems at launch.
Bug reports and broken questlines were commonplace before patches, and the title was infamously delayed on the Xbox platform due to hardware limitations with the Xbox Series S console. Despite these setbacks, Baldur’s Gate 3 fans remained committed, maintaining a strong player base. That’s why Larian’s announcement of a final patch feels bittersweet. A stylish animated trailer released by Larian Studios can be seen below, celebrating the game’s final update.
Larian boss Swen Vincke turned heads a few days ago with a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “I just read the 48 pages of patch notes on this. If there were a Michelin guide to patches, I’d give this one three stars.” The final patch — also known as Patch 8 — includes a whopping 12 new subclasses added to Baldur’s Gate 3, a photo mode for fans to capture their favourite (or least favourite) moments and the long-awaited addition of cross-play functionality.
Larian Studios’ official announcement reads: “Patch 8 will be the last game patch to introduce new content. That means we won’t be adding any new narrative content or significant changes to storylines, Origin characters or companions. We’ve told our stories the way we needed to tell them, and tried our best to make them impactful and engaging, and we’re continuing to get better at handling our own chaos so that we can continue to create more chaos in the future.”
The new subclasses introduced in Patch 8 are listed below.

- Path of the Giant Barbarian
- College of Glamour Bard
- Death Domain Cleric
- Circle of Stars Druid
- Arcane Archer Fighter
- Way of the Drunken Master Monk
- Oath of the Crown Paladin
- Swarmkeeper Ranger
- Swashbuckler Rogue
- Shadow Magic Sorcerer
- Hexblade Warlock
- Bladesinging Wizard
The official Patch notes are incredibly lengthy, so fans who want to check out the nitty-gritty details of Patch 8 can head to the official website knowing that this is the final update.
