Bethesda Shows off Starfield Tease in Seven Minute Dev Diary

Bethesda has released a seven-minute developer diary titled “Into the Starfield: The Endless Pursuit” which gives fans a tease of the developer’s upcoming game, Starfield.

The first episode of the mini-documentary series, with more episodes to follow in the future, features the game director, Todd Howard, alongside studio director Angela Browder, and art director Matt Carofano. The talking points of the episode include Bethesda Game Studios’ history, goals and passion for their games as well as their approach to looking into the future in their next game.

“You always have that ‘step out’ moment into the world… technology’s changed, we’ve all changed, so our expectations when loading up a game – like, ‘okay, we’re going to step out into this moment’. Us being able to do that and have it feel new every generation, every game, is something that’s really special about what we do,” Howard said during the video.

“I like to say Starfield has two ‘step out’ moments… that’s cryptic.”

Art director Matt Carofano notes that Bethesda Game Studios’ previous games are about game exploration and that the setting of Starfield which is outer space and that is the ‘ultimate exploration’. The aspect of discovering what’s past earth is an intriguing aspect of the game for Carofano and that he is incredibly excited to work on Starfield.

He adds that Starfield has a more realistic science-based backing to it as it is more grounded, unlike the Elder Scroll games the studio has worked on. Starfield has more of a grounded setting about exploration, This concept means that Bethesda is designing aspects like game areas, environments and characters from a different angle.

Throughout the video, Bethesda shows off teases that include a few cinematics and a lot of concept art of the game. One of the concept art pieces shows a pet cat, which suggests the player might be able to pet it during gameplay. Check the video for yourself to get a better look at the teases.

Starfield is set to release on PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series on November 11th, 2022 which will launch day one on Xbox Game Pass.
