Activision released a teaser trailer for Call of Duty: Warzone Season 3 update, capping its five-year anniversary with a return to Verdansk.
It has been five years since Call of Duty: Warzone dropped online, bringing the battle royale style to the franchise. Today, Activision unveiled a new five-year anniversary teaser to promote Season 3 for the game, showcasing that players will be returning to where it all started for the game: Verdansk. It also reveals that Season 3 will be out on April 3rd, 2025. Since the game’s launch in 2020, the game has continued to grow. What better way to kick off a monumental milestone for this game?
The Warzone teaser shows off different characters and skins players know well, returning to various spots across the OG map Verdansk. There are shots of slow-motion gunfire and explosions happening around each spotlighted character. All of this chaos and hoopla is backed by the track “Unforgettable” by Nat King Cole.
The free-to-download Warzone has seen more than 125 million players. It came out at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic when everyone was mandated to stay home or work from home. The game competed against the likes of PUBG, Apex Legends and Fortnite in the battle royale genre. Now, it has become a battle royale staple. This was a great long-term strategy for the Call of Duty series because the game would get updated along with the annual premium FPS game releases.
Sadly, Warzone has been struggling in the last year with Activision’s trouble combating cheaters. Players have observed that the decline in the player base is partly due to a lack of new content. With its fifth anniversary, Verdansk has a lot to live up to, breathing new life into the Call of Duty online game while tugging on the nostalgia factor, too. It’s uncertain if players will want to return to Verdansk, but it will be interesting to see how the developers improve it for both new and returning players.
The original launch date for Verdansk and the Season 3 throwback was supposed to be today, March 10th. However, an official Call of Duty social media post on March 3rd confirmed the delay. The exclusive Verdansk merchandise collection has now launched, generating excitement in anticipation of the upcoming update. Activision seems to be banking a lot on this content update, making it sound like a make-or-break moment for Warzone.

Alongside the return of Verdansk in Warzone, Season 3 brings more content in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6‘s multiplayer and Zombies modes next month. This follows the Season 2 Reloaded update that featured the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which launched at the end of last month. Verdansk will be completely free to download and try in the game’s free-to-play battle royale experience, while Black Ops 6 Season 3 will be available at no extra cost to all Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers in early April.
