3D printer lovers and makers rejoice: Creality is expanding its professional scanning lineup with the Sermoon P1S, an all-in-one handheld 3D scanner designed for reverse engineering, automotive work and on-location digitization.
Available worldwide beginning Sept. 22, the P1S shifts much of the typical scan-to-model process directly onto the device. Rather than requiring a laptop throughout the capture process, the scanner includes onboard computing, 256 GB of storage and a six-inch touchscreen for checking coverage and processing common scanning tasks in the field.
The Sermoon P1S combines 34 cross laser lines, seven parallel laser lines, a single blue laser line and NIR structured light. Creality says the different capture modes are intended to handle everything from large panels and general surfaces to finer details, narrow grooves and deep holes.
For users reconstructing physical components in CAD, Creality lists blue-laser accuracy of up to 0.02 mm, with volumetric accuracy rated at 0.02 mm plus 0.08 mm per metre. The company cautions that those figures are based on laboratory testing and can vary depending on vibration, temperature, and other environmental conditions.
The scanner runs at up to 60 frames per second in standalone blue-laser mode or 100 fps when connected to a PC. NIR structured-light capture is rated at up to 20 fps on-device and 30 fps through a PC connection. A high-precision glass calibration board is included to provide a consistent dimensional reference.
At 807 grams with its battery, the Sermoon P1S is aimed at users moving between workshops, garages and job sites. It supports standalone, wireless PC, and wired PC modes, including Wi-Fi 7 and USB 3.0 connectivity. Two replaceable 3,300 mAh batteries and PD 3.0 charging are intended to support longer sessions away from a desk.
Creality says blue-laser scanning can operate in light levels of up to 110,000 lux, while NIR scanning supports up to 80,000 lux with the included filter. The company also says the scanner can reduce the need for scanning spray when working with suitably dark or reflective materials.
We have looked at the Creality Raptor Pro 3D Scanner in the past, and while it can be a bit difficult to get the hang of right out of the box, the versatility and power of the unit were impressive. The fact that this technology was prohibitively expensive only a few years ago and is now available in a handheld unit is impressive. I am sure makers will appreciate that it can be used for more complex tasks. We are eager to give it a look and see what we can make with it.
The Sermoon P1S is priced at US$2,299, with an early-bird price of US$2,099 available through Oct. 12. Launch-period buyers will receive a complimentary can of AESUB blue self-vanishing scanning spray. CrealityScan supports STL, OBJ and PLY exports, along with AI-assisted hole filling for post-scan cleanup.
