Crimson Desert Recounts a Massive Year-Long Post-Launch, and A Switch 2 Port is Planned

Developer Pearl Abyss is celebrating the post-launch content added to Crimson Desert by announcing more DLC in Q4 2026, and a Switch 2 port is reportedly planned.

Pearl Abyss is celebrating the large amount of content added to Crimson Desert by posting a highlights overview trailer, shining a light on where the game has come from and where it is now. That’s not all; Pearl Abyss still has more content planned for Q4 2026, and the developers are allegedly hard at work on a port of Crimson Desert to the handheld Nintendo Switch 2. The highlights trailer is shown below, showcasing refinements made to the Desert since launch.

Recent reports indicate that Pearl Abyss is experimenting with multiplayer modes for its sprawling single-player adventure, Crimson Desert. However, the developer has said its fourth-quarter 2026 downloadable content is in development and scheduled for release “this year.” So far, Pearl Abyss has not confirmed any multiplayer modes for Crimson Desert. While developers continue working on the new content, fans should not expect a multiplayer mode to arrive as part of the fourth-quarter release. Based on Pearl Abyss’s latest announcement, more information about the next expansion is expected during the third quarter, meaning an announcement could come by the end of September.

More reports have surfaced from GamesIndustry (based on Pearl Abyss’s financial statements) regarding a potential Crimson Desert port to Nintendo Switch 2. Pearl Abyss has reportedly reached a “playable baseline” on Nintendo Switch 2 and is targeting a launch in the first half of 2027. Pearl Abyss is giving fans excuses to return to the Desert, and staying home appears to be a frontier they’re trying to erase.

The report states, “In the case of Switch 2, while optimization is required, the game is currently playable at a foundational level, and technical evaluations are underway to ensure performance optimization and compliance with our quality standards,” adding, “While it is difficult to confirm a definitive launch schedule at this time, we are working toward a release targeted for the first half of 2027. We will provide updates through our official channels once details are finalized.”

Crimson Desert is a massive success for Pearl Abyss, and more content is coming soon; it may even be playable on Nintendo Switch 2 starting in 2027.
