Sudden layoffs have struck H1Z1 developers, Daybreak Games.

Daybreak Games confirmed today that an undisclosed amount of its staff have been let go from the company. The company also assured players that the company’s layoffs will not affect the studio’s continuing support of their currently available games or future games in development.

“Daybreak confirms we are realigning our workforce to better position our company for the future. Because of this, we have had to make an extremely difficult decision to part ways with some of our employees across various disciplines at the studio. We are doing everything we can to take care of each affected individual by providing them appropriate transition assistance,” a company spokesperson said in an email to PC Gamer.

Daybreak Games’ latest cuts are following shortly after the developer’s decision to shift H1Z1’s payment model to being free-to-play only a week after releasing. H1Z1 was originally available as a paid early-access title before officially launching as a premium game.

Earlier this week, Daybreak Games announced that they will be bringing H1Z1 to the PlayStation 4 as a free-to-play title next month. The new PlayStation 4 version will have reworked systems to better suit consoles, along with simplified controls schemes. Daybreak Games also hosted a pro league for H1Z1 in Las Vegas, known as the H1Z1 Pro League. The studio’s layoffs will have no effect on H1Z1’s PlayStation 4 open beta release date of May 22.
