Deadpool 3 accomplished the impossible by bringing Hugh Jackman back as Wolverine after the character’s demise in Logan, Now there is a buzz surrounding Liev Schreiber’s return as Sabretooth.
While the Deadpool movie franchise continues to dig deep into the Merc with a Mouth’s history by bringing in notable X-Men mutants such as Colossus and Cable, recently they’ve announced the return of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine for Deadpool 3. Now there’s a report Liev Schreiber could potentially return as Sabretooth.
Funnily enough, in an interview with GQ three months ago, Liev Schreiber sat down to speak about his most iconic film roles, and at the 6:00 timestamp, he goes on to talk about his time playing Sabretooth in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Schreiber says “They didn’t ask me. No, I mean, I don’t think he was part of that story. You know?” with “I would have loved to bring Victor back, anytime, anywhere. But, it wasn’t part of that narrative. I wonder if I’m getting a little long in the tooth, so to speak, but probably not for Sabretooth,” on his exclusion from the Logan film.
Schreiber then went on to applaud Ryan Reynolds’s role in the Deadpool franchise and the upcoming Deadpool 3 with “Ryan did such a great job with that transition, because I felt like it was in many ways so antithetical to who that character was in Origins, but I’m glad that Ryan was able to correct that mistake” regarding the portrayal of Deadpool in X-Men Origins.
The interview’s timing makes the rumour surrounding a Sabretooth appearance in Deadpool 3 more compelling, According to reporter Daniel Richtman the return is imminent. The report made the rounds on X (formerly Twitter) and has since snowballed since Wednesday. Interestingly enough, Schreiber interrupted an ‘X-Men reunion’ Zoom call with Ryan Reynolds three years ago, where he bellowed “X-Men Origins reunite, yeah!” at the end of the call. It goes without saying this report should be taken with a grain of salt until a formal announcement is made regarding Deadpool 3 updates, especially since Ryan Reynolds likes to funnily reveal everything himself on social media.
