The most recent Deadpool 3 set photos showed off a decapitated head of a major X-Men film character, featuring Deadpool and Wolverine.
Numerous set photos have already shown off bits of the upcoming Marvel film Deadpool 3. Now, there are some new ones—displaying a disturbing death of a major X-Men character. Ryan Reynolds will obviously be reprising his role as Wade Wilson aka Deadpool, with Hugh Jackman returning as James ‘Logan’ Howlett aka Wolverine. The set photos revealed a fight between Deadpool and Wolverine against the latter’s nemesis, Sabertooth. The most shocking photo was Deadpool holding up a decapitated head of the Brotherhood member Sabertooth.
Jackman last played the role in Logan, but is reliving the beloved character in Deadpool 3, reuniting with his off-screen good friend Reynolds, whom he worked with on X-Men Origins: Wolverine. In the latest snaps from the set of Deadpool 3, the red anti-hero was seen fighting alongside Wolverine. The two appeared to be taking down Sabertooth. Sabertooth/Victor Creed was seen in the original X-Men film and in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Whether this was Liev Schreiber’s or Tyler Mane’s Sabertooth, it was unclear.
The environment appeared to be the same wasteland-looking environment from the previous set photos that surfaced across the internet. Sources also spotted Reynolds filming a car crash scene in London earlier this year. It is highly likely Deadpool 3 will also see the return of Morena Baccarin returning to play Wade’s fiancée Vanessa from the previous two films. Other possible cast members who are likely to make another appearance include Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, Brianna Hildebrand, Shioli Kutsuna and Stefan Kapičić.
While there has not been a trailer or any plot details revealed yet, it seems like this will finally be the multiversal tie-in for the titular character joining the MCU, as the previous films were under Fox’s productions. Jennifer Garner has also been confirmed to be returning as her Elektra character. It’s the first time she will be back in the production after an almost 20-year hiatus. This was around the same time Ben Affleck and her starred in Daredevil.
Rumours have spread about the potential for other X-Men characters to make cameo appearances, such as Storm, Cyclops, and Jean Grey among them. There were also possibilities of Channing Tatum and Taylor Kitsch reprising their roles as different Variants of Gambit. However, other new confirmed actors included Emma Corrin (The Crown) and Matthew Macfadyen (Succession), whose roles are still under wraps. Recent reports also claimed that Loki‘s TVA members Agent Mobius and Miss Minutes may also be involved with the film’s plotline. Everything is speculative, but maybe this film will have a bigger role on the MCU’s Phase 5 than fans could have predicted.
While not much else has come out of the Deadpool 3 camp yet in terms of a trailer, there could be more looming details coming around the new year. With its July 24, 2024 release date, it is only a matter of time. The filming schedule was said to be heavily focused in the United Kingdom so Reynolds could manage his growing commitments with Wrexham AFC. The Disney+ documentary series Welcome to Wrexham captured how him and actor/friend Rob McElhenney bought and promoted the team.
