Dell Refreshes Alienware’s Area-51m, m15, and m17 for 2020, with Intel 10th Gen Chips and Newer GPU's

Dell revealed the latest upgrades to the Alienware range of gaming laptops, offing with improved specs across the board with new Intel’s 10th gen CPU and the latest in GPU’s from Nvidia.

The Area-51m R2, Alienware is offering up four processor options for consumers to choose between. The entry-level Core i7-10700 (eight cores, 2.9GHz base clock speed with up to a 4.8GHz boosted speed) and the unlocked Core i7-10700K, which boosts base clock speed to 3.8GHz and boosted speed up to 5.1GHz. For the people that demand only the best, and need the power for creation or the most intensive gaming, there is also the options for the 10-core Core i9-10900 (2.8GHz base speed and 5.2GHz boost speed) along with the unlocked Core i9-10900K boasting a crushing 3.7GHz base speed and 5.3GHz maximum boosted speed.

On the GPU side of things, the Area-51m R2 comes with the choice between the Nvidia’s GTX 1660 Ti with 6GB of memory, an RTX 2060 with 6GB of memory, an RTX 2070 Super with 8GB of memory, or an RTX 2080 Super also with 8GB of memory. If you want to live on the AMD side of the GPU debate the newly added AMD Radeon RX 5700M (with 8GB of memory) should fit the bill.

Dell did not stop there, the rest of the internals have also received a nice boost to performance. The Alienware Area-51m R2 now offers up even faster RAM options with the potential for 2933MHz DDR4 configurations at up to 64GB., or up to 32GB of 3200MHz DDR4 XMP memory. As with most Alienware laptops, there are a range of storage options that should meet most gamers, or creators needs.

There are also two new options for the 17.4-inch display: a new 300Hz refresh rate 3ms FHD option, and a 4K UHD panel with 500 nits of breaighness that boasts 100% Adobe RGB colour gamut. This is in combination to the previous FHD 144Hz , and the FHD 144Hz Nvidia’s G-Sync display options.

The new Area-51m R2 will be available starting June 9th and has a starting price of $3,049.99 USD for the base model.

The new m15 R3 and m17 R3 are a bit more of a standard upgrade over last year’s offerings. Both laptops have been updated with Intel’s 10th Gen H-series chips with the configurations almost identical across the board, beyond display sizes that is.

Both the m15 R3 and m17 R3 will offer three choices of CPU: the quad-core i5-10300H, the six-core i7-10750H, and the 8-core i9-10980HK, with 8GB, 16GB, or 32GB of 2666MHz DDR4 RAM. There is a range of storage options that start at 256GB to 2TB of PCIe M.2 SSD storage, with options for up to 4TB in a RAID0 configuration or 4.5TB in a RAID0 Plus setup.

Much like the Area-51m R2, there are new GPU options including the Nvidia’s GTX 1650 Ti, 1660 Ti, RTX 2060, RTX 2070, RTX 2070 Super, and RTX 2080 Super, along with the AMD Radeon RX 5500M.

On the display side both laptops offering 144Hz FHD, 144Hz FHD with G-Sync, and 300Hz FHD options in their respective 15.6-inch and 17.3-inch sizes. There’s also a 4K UHD option with Tobii eye-tracking for both laptops: the m15 with a 400-nit OLED panel, with the m17 delivering a brighter 500 nit LCD panel.

Both laptops will be avalable starting May 21st, with the m15 R3 starting at $1,499.99 and the m17 R3 sitting at $1,549.99 to start.
