Diablo IV Will Require Battle.net To Play On Game Pass

Here’s What You Need To Know

Diablo IV Season of the Malignant Details Have Been Revealed

Activision Blizzard’s massively popular action RPG, Diablo IV, the fourth installment of the Diablo series, is coming to Microsoft’s Game Pass on March 28, 2024, and here is how to get it.

Diablo IV will be the first Blizzard game to be added to Microsoft’s subscription service following the acquisition of Activision Blizzard back in October 2023. With the announcement of Diablo IV coming to Game Pass, Microsoft has created a step-by-step guide on how PC players can get set up to play the game, and there are quite a few more steps players will have to go through than anticipated.

When Diablo IV goes onto Game Pass at the end of this month, PC players interested in trying out the game must install Battle.net, Blizzard’s digital distribution platform. As outlined by the guide posted on Xbox Wire, the following steps for playing Diablo IV are:

  • Open the Xbox App on your PC and make sure you are signed in with your Microsoft account tied to your Game Pass membership. Then click on Diablo IV and then the Install button.
  • Click “Install Battle.net” when prompted and complete the installation. (If you already have Battle.net installed, you’ll skip to the next step automatically)
  • You’ll be prompted to connect your Battle.net account to your Microsoft account. If you already have a Battle.net account, you can log in to complete the connection, or from here, you can create a Battle.net account to make the connection.
  • Once you have downloaded Battle.net and connected your accounts, you can complete the installation of Diablo IV!

From these instructions, installing Diablo IV isn’t as simple as other games on Game Pass, where you can just click to play them right after they are installed on your PC. PC players have noted that other games from Blizzard, such as Overwatch 2, which became available to play through Steam, did not require an installation of Battle.net.

However, you still need to create a Battle.net account to play Overwatch 2 on the Steam platform. For now, players are basically going to be using Battle.net when launching Diablo IV through Game Pass.
