FromSoftware’s next big game was set to make its debut today with the first network test for The Duskbloods, but after a disastrous morning of server issues, the first day has been completely called off, with the studio issuing an apology. In a post on X, FromSoftware says,
“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused to those who were waiting for the first The Duskbloods network test due to game server issues. We regret to inform you that today’s session is now closed. We will continue to work on improving the servers and will announce future schedules at a later date.”
It’s actually a bit of a confusing message, as it doesn’t make it entirely clear if the additional sessions planned for this weekend will still happen, or if everything is being moved to a later date. Still, it does confirm that FromSoftware will have more network test sessions down the road, at least. While it’s certainly not an ideal start for the game, it should be noted that Elden Ring: Nightregn suffered from almost the exact same issue during its network test.
The Duskbloods, exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2, is FromSoftware’s latest foray into multiplayer, and like Nightregn, it’s a PvPvE (Player vs Player vs Enemy) experience. It already looks just as esoteric and bizarre as many of the studio’s other games, but a particular focus here seems to be on casual players. We recently attended a hands-on preview at FromSoftware’s studio, where director Hidetaka Miyazaki said,
“Basically, the only two points that we had at the start were we wanted something like the virtue system, something where players could enjoy matches without solely having to rely on PvP skills. They could kind of do their own thing and still enjoy and sort of compete in the matches, and we think that that’s sort of still very much the case currently. And then, as well, we wanted to have this sort of unexpected drama.”
The Duskbloods is scheduled to launch in 2026 on Nintendo Switch 2, although FromSoftware has yet to announce a release date.
