Elden Ring has now become FromSoftware’s most successful title after 16.6 Million copies have been sold since launch, surpassing sales of Dark Souls and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
FromSoftware is infamously known for its reluctance to put a difficulty setting into their brutally challenging titles, and this has created a barrier between gamers and accessibility to their intensely engaging narratives. Elden Ring has apparently shattered that mould by surpassing 16 million units sold since launch, which was only a meagre four months ago, without skimping on the difficulty feature.

To put the massive number into perspective, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has sold just over 27 million as of June 30, 2022, and it was released back in 2017. To hit over half the total copies of the best-selling Legend of Zelda entry ever in a fraction of the time is an enormous accomplishment, considering the stigmatization FromSoftware’s difficulty has gotten.
Over the past four months of Elden Ring, there have been many notable occurrences in the community that keep the title as the talk of the town. The YouTube drama earlier this year between creator The Act Man and other creator Quantum TV initially started with the former defending Elden Ring‘s honour in a video where he discussed “The WORST Hot Elden Ring Hot Takes.”
Another massive community explosion was the prominence of Elden Ring player named ‘Let Me Solo Her,’ who would be available to summon for help against what many community members consider is the hardest boss in the game, Malenia Blade of Miquella. The player would then display great skill while soloing the hardest boss dual wielding katanas, and wearing nothing but a Jar on their head. Bandai Namco has even recognized the achievement of defeating the boss over 2000 times, by gifting the player who goes by handle TsuboiKlein on Twitter a unique sword as a prize for his accomplishment.
With all the prestige Elden Ring carries into its half year mark, fans will have to wait and see how much bigger the population of the Lands Between will become.
