Elon Musk Biopic Coming From A24 and Darren Aronofsky

A new biopic focusing on Elon Musk is reportedly on the way from A24, directed by Darren Aronofsky.

According to a report from Variety, Walter Isaacson’s authorized biography of the tech CEO, simply titled “Elon Musk,” will serve as the basis for the screenplay. Isaacson’s previous biography of Steve Jobs was adapted into the 2015 Universal biopic.

Elon Musk, of course, has risen to prominence through ownership of companies like Tesla, The Boring Company, Neuralink, and OpenAI. More recently, Musk purchased Twitter in March 2023, which has subsequently been renamed X Corp. Musk purchased the corporation for $44 million and has implemented countless changes over the last nine months, garnering backlash from users in the process. Musk is currently the wealthiest person in the world, with Forbes estimating his net worth to be more than $200 billion.

Aronofsky, on the other hand, is known for his cerebral and surreal filmmaking, most recently garnering critical acclaim for The Whale, which stars Brendan Fraser. His other works include Requiem for a Dream, Black Swan, and Mother! Aronofsky was nominated for best director in 2017 for Black Swan, with Natalie Portman also winning best actress that year.

A24 distributed The Whale, and the studio, in general, won 18 Academy Awards across six different films this year. With all that in mind, it’s easy to see why the studio picked Aronofsky for this project. Aronofsky often takes on dark and twisted tales, so it will be interesting to see how he takes on an Elon Musk biopic.

Variety reports that there was quite a bidding war to get the rights to Elon Musk’s film, with A24 eventually coming out on top. At the moment, no writer or other members of the production have been announced, nor has any kind of date or release window.
