Facebook is cancelling its flagship F8 conference in San Jose from risks of coronavirus (COVID-19).
The annual event was set to run for two days from May 5 to May 6, announcing the latest developments with Facebook’s online platform and other new features for its social media services.
The conferences have also been an opportunity for Facebook to reveal new products and virtual reality updates with Oculus (though the studio had shifted to its own annual Connect events).
In a developer statement, the company said its “in-person component of F8 2020” won’t happen while the health and safety of staff and partners are a priority.
Instead, Facebook is finding other ways to share its news through online presentation and “a combo of locally hosted events.”
The company also told guests to look forward to next year’s F8 event while more details would be shared “in the coming weeks.”
F8 is the latest event to be cancelled from coronavirus following their withdrawal from PAX East and GDC last week.
