Fortnite on the PS4 is getting exciting cross-play features and the beta opens today.

The beta will allow Fortnite players to not only have cross-platform gameplay, but also progression and commerce across the PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One,  Android and iOS.

The feedback from the beta will then provide Sony with information on the user experience from a social and technical standpoint in order to give players the best experience.

This represents a major policy change for SIE, and we are now in the planning process across the organization to support this change,” John Kodera, the President and Global CEO at Sony, wrote in a post.

Sony has realized that PS4 Fortnite players have been waiting for an update like this, and have done a thorough evaluation process to decide how they can support these new features. This evaluation included analysis on business mechanics.

Sony has yet to reveal the open beta’s timeframe, but promises to update the community with details soon.
